This one, I agree, when I was younger, I have to primp & proper, at the breakfast & afternoon tea, not too use fingers for the sugar cubes, but the tongs provided, not to slurp, when you drink the tea, where to place the tea spoon, not to clang the cockery when stirring..etc it is a culture. The other Asian culture I had when drinking in Chinese tea houses back then, that is another culture, how to pour the tea from the pot onto the cups, using chop sticks to pick up the dim sum or pau or, not to shout, when talking. Back then, they have racks to hang their birds in the teahouse...you are not to disturb the birds...children are to be seen not heard.

You haven't watched a Chinese wine ceremony yet like 煮酒论英雄。Anyway, I agree with you. Such occasions are no place for children unless they can stay still, shut up and learn. But the best way to teach children is always a good whack with the cane. Don't do it barehanded though, you may cause permanent damage. The cane is the best. At worst causing some split skins only. But the naughty kid will learn his lesson. Spare the cane and spoil the kid, that seems to be Singapore fashion now,

Spare the ROD & spoil the child! what cane! It is a common sight to see kids 'climbing' all over their parents in public places. In the past, the children were disciplined by the Mother, the Father or the grandparents , uncles , aunts etc..nowadys, the maid. So, what do you expect?

Luckily I was tough enough and my dad was merciful enough to know where's the limit. Every issue was settled and learned by heart forever kept in mind within one strike. My younger brothers were spared that treatment after my mother and aunties banned that and threw that rod away. But I wouldn't recommend it anyway, no matter how naughty the kid is. The cane is enough.
