It's very difficult for independent candidate to stand in any SMC nowadays, especially in Hougang. It's not as simple as election deposit anymore. One needs six nominators on the electoral roll with NRIC address in Hougang to go to nomination centre and face off the WP and PAP contingents. Find them, then say.

The first requirement as abovementioned that they must be on the electoral roll living in that constituency. Then they must be brave enough to face government officials and police in person with their NRIC. Their particulars are recorded as opposition or independent nominators, posted on a notice board and archived for record.

heard that tan jee say is also eyeing this piece of pie.

from what is observed, pinky is punishing hougangers for voting n putting faith in the wrong person. unfortunately ysl is linkied to wp and hence wp also got "flamed n fixed" by pinky during parleement. Quote: it was becos of wp that we ended up in this situation.

the pap's strategy now is in 2 fold:

1. wayang to distribute goodies to everyone which is sort of a "national bribery".

2. purposely procrastinate on calling a by-election for hougang to shame wp n persistently remind hougangers the regret of not voting pap.

3. when 1 & 2 have taken their effects, a by-election would be called. this would ensure that pap's chances of winning hougang would be heightened.

so how could I or the wp counteract this unsportsmanship strategy?

As I said before, Tan Jee Say's bid to form a new party is the stupidest move in the current context.

Basically, it is going to combine small but significant groups from 3 major opposition parties, namely SDP (which TJS himself is from and probably Michelle and Ang will follow), SPP (Ben Pwee and gang leaving a party with Parliament seat) and NSP (like Nicole, Jeannette though there is a possibility of this being more difficult than the rest to happen as the 2 may want to stay put). This will merely divide the opposition further. Of course, this may also include the former WP chaps like Eric and Fazli, but for WP it is a different ball game and dynamics always.

who'd be deployed by wp to take on the by-election? would a total recall for gohmengseng back to wp would increase the chances of winning hougang one more round?

should tan jee say set up a new opp party, is he there to help the wp or conversely actually aiding the pap?

imho,instead of setting up a new party, tjs might as well be the eleventh hour wp member cum candidate to stand for the by-election. then we could forget about my evil twin gms who is now making too excessive criticisms against wp. cherry picking on wp is not the way to go at this moment where positive views should be highlighted. in another words, if there's nothing good better to say in helping wp, then better shuddup!

we want sufficient opp representatives in parleement. look at the more "pro-active" pap now. if they were to win like last time, u think they would be so humble and mindful about the ground? think again.

GET THAT WARD!! VOTE FOR WP ! hougangers who ve supported wp previously should maintain their loyal support again to wp during the by-election.

sadly, this type of people could be just for themselves than for the better bigger good. he could join wp and PR ltk to allow him as the candidate for the by election.

if too many opps (new part-time parties) clash in hougang BE, then chances are that pap would emerge victory.

so must ask themselves these:

1. what ar their chances of winning?
2. helping the voters or helping yourself or worst helping the pap?
