SINGAPORE – An 88-year-old female pedestrian died on Sept 30 after an accident involving a power-assisted bicycle (PAB) in Hougang the day earlier.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for assistance at about 7.55am on Sept 29 at Hougang Street 51. The police added that this was in the direction of Hougang Street 91.

The police said the pedestrian was unconscious when she was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital by the SCDF. They added that she later died at the hospital on Sept 30.

A 49-year-old male PAB rider is assisting with investigations, the police said.

A post on Facebook page Singapore roads accident.com on Oct 1 appealed for witnesses. It has garnered more than 40 shares.

Riders of motorised devices need to be certified and insured. Why hasn't LTA done that?

I insist that if you are too weak or lazy to ride a traditional bicycle, you should ride a wheelchair instead.

E-bikes should be treated like real motorbikes or scooters.
