wtf? of course remove half the round shell and spikes first before serving. who is gonna eat urchin by biting thru' spikes. common sense. so you do spooning eh? like you do to yourself?

Since u also like uni , you can go to their supermarket and get uni sen ( sea urchin crackers ) . Confirm u will like .;)

Thanks I will try to go buy today

This is the original way of eating crab in japan ..forget about chilli crab .. Like that you can taste the real crab meat ..

Yes the crab is very sweet and chunky. Seriously I ate until I very jelat, wife ate one side of the legs while I ate the other side and the body.

had uni nigiri but never heard of uni sashimi. how do one cut uni into thin slices?

I bought it already removed from the spiky shell so I no idea how they remove it

By the way the uni and king crab I bought from this stall in the seafood market and the opposite stall cook for me for 1000 yen.

ok, so it is just uni out of the shell. can't be sashimi because sashimi means thin cuts or slices. can't do that to soft uni which is like small brain. prefer to suck than scoop. more barbaric and more like neantherthal.

Joetys, thanks and keep us posted. I've never been to Japan before except Narita Airport on transit to and fro USA. Both me and my wife like Japanese food. She used to shop at nearby Junction 8 Daimaru for our Japanese food. Since NTUC took over, the selection available got less and less. Now she has to go a bit further to Orchard Isetan for our regular fix of Japanese food.

Ok now on the way to national park to see scenery wait I post some scenery photo rather than food.

Isetan has good Japanese imported food, if I need I also go Isetan's supermarket in Central World Bangkok

My fav Jap dish is tempura prawn. Whenever I go Jap restaurant I order tempura prawns only, not tempura mixed. More expensive of course but nevermind. Not everyday eat one. Then one bowl of Jap rice and one bowl of miso soup, eat until shiok shiok :)

Got one time I went Clarke Quay saw Malay stall selling prawn satay. Also straight prawn but I know how they make it straight. Its straight of course poked through a satay stick and satayed. Looked very nice. Ordered some to try and pui pui pui KNN

The prawn meat tasted dead powdery like dead since last month. Never ever eat there again :mad:

I was very surprised qt the prices here in Sapporo like this afternoon we had 2 bowls of "out of the world" ramen, 2 Sapporo beer, kyoza it was only 3310 yen or $55 and I think its cheaper than in Osaka or Tokyo. Ok tonight's dinner I cannot compare because we had really nice food and extremely good sake total cost 29,800 yen for 3 people and drinks for 5 (bought drinks for chef and manager), also we had lots and lots of fun in the restaurant. Worth every cent because its something we can never experience outside Japan. I will post some pictures here tomorrow because I'm a little wasted but wife completely wasted.

Wow, that is pretty expensive for ramen in Sapporo, even if it was "out of this world" The best ramen I've had in Sapporo is at a place called Sakurajima. It's a proper old style shop with traditional Japanese interior....and a lot cheaper than what you paid before. Check it out if you have the chance.

Thank you so much bcheng, I will certainly go try it out. Tomorrow I leave for Hakkodate for 3 nights and will be back on Friday. Will try to catch your recommended ramen for breakfast tomorrow.

Here're some scenery pictures I took today of the autumn in onsen area about 1.5 hours away from Sapparo;
