Suggest some ways for GMS to improve.

There is some time for him to become better in time for elections.

I had already pointed a few for him.

1. hang the "spokesman" of NSP effectively himself. He is not cut out to be a spokesman.

2. Go find Jackie Hoo as his election campaign manager. Of course I do not mean literally Jackie Hoo but someone in the persona and ability to help GMS better project himself publicly and positively.

3. Go find another leader to take GMS under the latter's wing. GMS is the best possible lieutenant a Captain can find but not as a "captain".

4. When all the above 3 are in order, hopefully, his main objective then is to serve the very people who voted for him and not for the money.

GMS is an SAF commissioned Captain and allowed to use that title with his name officially if he wants to. GMS is also fairly and squarely elected Secretary-General of NSP. His last election record was 44% with WP at Aljunied GRC 2006. Many people off the grounds think it was mostly about Sylvia Lim. Half truth at best. Of the five candidates, Sylvia and GMS scored well above 44% in their zones, Tan Wui Hua about around average around there, Rahizan Mhd. and James Gomez well below, that's how the overall GRC result settled at 44%. That's no party secret or national. Both WP and PAP and others who bother to know know that.

Being kind to GMS will do him more harm than good. Well, then he committed an "honest" mistake to leave WP. He is more a liability now than he was remaining in WP or was it WP do not have the room and space to further his own political agenda? Given LTK as the leader and Sylvia hailed as the next shinning star, GMS was not satisfy at that.

If you take it so literally regarding the usage of army ranks here then I am left speechless.

I am worried if GMS is all NSP got. Simple their best does not shine.

GMS is a "loose-canon" for the media. He need to be tamed by another more political astute leader who know how to better position GMS. GMS is one of the key/pivoted chess pieces in this coming election, but he is definitely not a chess player. He makes a fine political lieutenant or in your language, a fine officer commanding, key man to the commanding officer's strategic military maneuver. Captain GMS is one fine officer who will lead his company par excellence under the command and planning of an astute commanding officer. CO's order to GMS will be executed in clock works precision like breaching an enemy's concertina lines/clearing mines etc etc. Cpt GMS will be a good Supports Coy OC commanding critical organs of the battalion like a reconnaissance platoon, 81mm mortar platoon, 106mm recoil-less gun platoon, engineer/pioneer platoon, and a sniper section.

Without the leadership and visionary of a good CO, GMS is just that a honest man with honest mistakes ... sadly but true. But he will be "damn F*king" good at at being that second fiddler to a greater leader.

now got nothing fight already, you can imagine the drama when combined oppo took over govt and it's time to divide the cabinet posts.

actually I think one of the strategies is that oppositions should come out NOW even the actual election is to name their possible cabinet or mirror cabinet to give them a psychological edge in the voters mind especially those intending for a change will now be even determined.

sometimes "looking" prepared is more important than "being" prepared.

name whole cabinet very hard even if whole oppo camp do 1 list, it's worth a try for a psychological edge - "wah, they are serious this time" maybe some important cabinet posts will do.

but the idea sound funny to me if oppositions only contest 60% of seats.

'ya true... but just an idea if they contest whole Singapore... my suspicion is Opp can do this time round but no clear leadership to horn every parties by its horn and move forward. on one figure like Anwar.. .ec etc.. if u get my drift...

RP's economics really make some adults look like kids.

SDP's kids sound more adult than some adults.

NSP's speeches are impressive.

Before the rah-rah boys go around disturbing others, please learn to call yourselves an opposition party instead of alternative party. What alternatives?

- Total Withdrawal of FW Levies? Higher GST instead?
- Inflation is imported? Higher costs of living is inevitable?
- Minimum Wage will lead to market distortion?
- Without FW, nasi lemak will cost $9?
- Human rights advocacy cannot put food on table? The monks in Myanmar were protesting the lack of economic development?

Busok and IP MAN-wannabe have raised a few good pointers.

GMS should build on his past "success" and heed the advice of Busok to glam himself up.

Politics is 80% presentation. The other 20%? Luck.

You are good! how quick you think... a simple switch of alphabet and a whole new meaning. Maybe can be opposition spin taller. Nothing dishonorable about spin telling. its part of politics.

To be fair to GMS, I went through his so call National Day message several times to try to find sometime to his credit. I got my mandarin proficient friends to asses the Chinese version...... all of us ONE similar conclusion:

GMS did not say anything that the people do not know. He can go on to list all the "crimes" PAP committed since colonial days or even further into PAP's ancestor background. GMS is doing nothing but a witch hunting chant.

Enough. Singaporeans WANT solution, and solution is not just simply VOTE for opposition. Even like what phouse3 had listed the few valid pointers are just the tip of the iceberg. In this sense Singaporeans are much more pragmatic than anywhere else. Singapore's brand of politics is not about "human rights", "constitutional rights", "Liberal", "socialism" etc etc etc and what have you. Singapore's brand of politics sadly but true is Politics of Pragmatism.

RP's economics really make some adults look like kids.

SDP's kids sound more adult than some adults.

If I can sum up in a single sentence what is in every voters mind would be

"Will my vote for you means rice on my table?"

I thank you.

Not fair to just state numbers like that. Maybe RM was against the immensely popular Zainal and JG against George Yeo while the omnipotent MS Goh went up against Cynthia or Ghuat Kwang.
