Exclusive: Senior CPIB man probed for financial misdeeds

A senior officer with the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) is being investigated for financial impropriety.

The New Paper understands that the officer, who holds the position of “assistant director”, is suspected of embezzling a substantial sum of money from the organisation.

After finding out about this, the CPIB immediately alerted the Commercial Affairs Department to investigate.

TNP understands that the CPIB officer in question has been interdicted -- civil service parlance for being suspended from duty with the possibility of having pay docked or withheld.

CIA called to investigate FBI, FBI called investigate CIA. It's not uncommon in the US. But then, Singapore cannot be compared to the US in many ways.

"... the CPIB immediately alerted the Commercial Affairs Department to investigate... "

The CAD officer who picked up the phone, must have kena balls shrink when he realize it's CPIB on the phone.

More coming. Leegime's cancer.

The sap in the old tree is drying up fast, termites & other wood borrowing worms have infested it, parts of it are falling apart exposing vermin. We are seeing, sex, money issues, abuse of power, need not be said had been around for a very long time; but a major abuse of power will soon surface. The other would be the abuse of connections.

The tree is dying, one last leaf is waiting to fall, when providence blow her chilly wind towards it....the tree is drying of sap, the system is in a rapid decline.

According to ST today, CAD comes in only if the amount is really big. That this happens in the CPIB is not ironical, but also symptomic of the fact the across the country, things are pretty much on auto-pilot.

No my dear Ultimaonline,

That CAD officer would be the happiest person in his department.

The wise saying of "retribution" in many religions is true. Believe it or not, it is karma at work.

"In the late 70's, a yaya-papaya police officer was seconded from the Police to the CPIB. An Inspector from Traffic Accidents Branch was investigated by the CPIB. These ex-police officer (from CPIB, who is now DEAD) threatened and verbally-abused that poor Inspector, who was finally cleared of any wrong-doing.
A few months later the CPIB officer concerned was involved in a driving accident whilst under the influence of alcohol. He was injured and taken to SGH where he was warded.
Guess what, the Accidents Branch IO who went to meet him (CPIB secondee from SPF) was none other then that same officer who was earlier investigated, threatened and abused verbally, told the injured CPIB officer to rest and get well until the day he would have to appear in Court for a case of drink driving.
The case was concluded in Court where that CPIB officer was convicted".

What is the moral of these true story folks?

No CAD officer picked up the phone. CPIB officer involved would mean DCPIB alerting PMO and either PMO or DCPIB informing DCAD first before latter assigns an officer to do the probe.

CPIB reports directly to the Minister,CAD reports to CP?

CPIB reports to PMO. CAD, on paper, reports to CP. In reality, DCAD goes direct to PS MHA. Previous DCADs were on par with CP (superscale grade). They see CP no-up and MHA was fully aware. In the past, CAD reported to Minister of Finance.

Not really bro. Any CBT case involving a director, however small the amount, is investigated by CAD. For this CPIB case, it is a case of interest. Also, they won't dare hand this case over to the police land division.

GD,

Got alot of AD in CPIB?

Not sure of the current numbers. In the 90s, there were 3. Likely to be more nowadays. In the past, you had DCPIB, DD CPIB and maybe 3 ADs. Now, you have DCPIB, Dir Investigation, Dir Ops and maybe Dir Admin. Below these Dirs, you have the DDs and I am sure many ADs will fall-in behind the DDs. Eric Tan must have copied the organisational structure of ISD.
