SINGAPORE: A 28-year-old man will be charged in court on Tuesday (Oct 7) for allegedly hurling vulgarities at police officers at Changi Airport and scratching one of them.

The Canadian national was arrested after the incident on Sunday morning.

At about 9.20am, the police were alerted to a man who was allegedly drunk and causing nuisance at the public departure area of Terminal 1.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the man allegedly hurled vulgarities repeatedly at the duty auxiliary police officer after being instructed to present and place his boarding pass on top of his passport," the police said in a media release.

He purportedly ignored the instructions and walked away despite repeated warnings to stop.

When officers from the Airport Police Division arrived, the man allegedly hurled vulgarities at the officers, shoved one of them and scratched him, the police said.
The officer suffered minor injuries on his arms and was given two days of medical leave, they added.
For the offence of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from carrying out their duty, the man faces a jail term of up to seven years, and a fine or caning.
For using abusive words against a public servant, he faces a jail term of up to 12 months, a fine of up to S$5,000 (US$3,870), or both.

For the offence of being drunk causing nuisance, he faces up to six months' jail or a fine of up to S$1,000, or both.
