Emigration Matters: Advice Needed + My Thoughts

Sound good to me. Dec-Jan tend to be slow (job/housing market), because of the holidays.

I think my PM settings are fixed.

ooh that's good news..also I understand that in March-April, it will be one month plus into the Uni sem, so i would assume i can get some cheap accomodation --> better news for me!

Here is something I dug up.

http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/residents/155/eligibility.htm

Please make sure you settle all affairs in Singapore before you return. There wasn't a need for me to apply for a RRV during the 2 years period I was back. But I'll assume there would be a long bureaucratic process to obtain one if you are not eligible for it. I assume you stayed out of the country for a significant amount of time during the 5 years.

Hi Ash007, just browsed through your link.

from what I understand is, I do not need to apply for it b4 my visa expires in may 2012.

But once i enter in april 2012 and at a later date, I wanna leave australia such that my return date is after the expiration of my permanent visa, then i would need this RRV.

Am i right?

That is my understanding as well. As long as you are in the country before the visa expires, you would be fine. I'm assuming you did not stay in Australia significantly during the 5 years period. Hence the warning, that applying for one under this circustances may be difficult if you need to leave the country for whatever reason.

dammit...typed a whole lot on my phone browser but it didn't get through.

bro ash007, thanks for the heads up...indeed over the past 4 years i have chalked up slightly more than 3 months of stay in OZ. Seems like i really have to settle everything swee swee in SG before going over.

So does this mean I do not need this RRV once i fulfilled my 2 years? Im just thinking if i enter one month b4 the expiry of my PR visa...what would I be when it is expired?

Bro Ash007, which part of OZ are you located?

After your 2 years stint you can become a citizen instead, and don't have to worry about applying for an RRV all the time. You can also withdraw your CPF fully as a foreigner and your children won't have anymore NS liabilities.
