China sends ships to islands disputed with Japan: Xinhua

Japan already control the islands. why should they take their chances with the ICJ court.

only those countries who don't control the disputed territories will challenge the other side in the ICJ court. nothing to lose. :D

Looks like war is inevitable. China confronts Japan and US will come in to aid Japan since they still have their bases in Okinawa and is also the closest and longest standing ally in the Asia Pacific.

However, US will have a hard time because China can impose restrictions on the many US companies operating in China and then these GE, GM, Colgate Palmolive, P&G, etc, will suffer. Already, Boeing has lose much to Airbus.

It is China that has been unreasonable. Senkaku has been under the Japanese control since 1895 and China has never claimed it.

It was only till the 70s that natural resources were found near the islands that PRC and ROC laid claim to it.

The islands do belong to Japan, since it was owned by a Japanese businessman and he has willingly rented it to the Japanese government. The claims of China are weak, using ancient history is not going to legitimize their claims.

Likewise, Dokdo belongs to Korea. Controlled by Korea since history and garrisoned. Japan should buzz off.

the worst armed conflict will be their patrol ship/boat opening fire at each other. all those wayang nonsenses.

China and Japan will never go to war. Their economic interests are too deep and a war would be detrimental to both sides. Japan creates Chinese jobs and China provides cheap labour.

Besides, China has its plate full.

Tibet, Taiwan, Xinjiang, Bo Xilai, Leftists and the reformists condemning the current leadership, Hu Jintao's cronies mostly excluded from Politburo, anti-government protestors who make use of the anti-Japan riots to vent their anger on the government, slowing economy and lately, the Hong Kong protests against Chinese education.

Japan is actually shrewd to buy at this time. China is too busy with their domestic problems and are busy for their handover.

I too feel absurd when China reiterated that even the whole of the South China Sea belongs to them.

you read any historical documents that proved the islands were under the possession of China before it's integration into Japan? vague maps and statements like Chinese fishermen were fishing there for centuries don't count. a country acquired territory by first discovery.

Admiral Cheng Ho probably acquired most of the islands in the South China Sea and some in the Indian Ocean.

Those powers behind ICJ have one time or another occupied a part of China.

When I questioned them about going to the ICJ for arbitration (whilst in Hangzhou) about their conflict with the Philippines, they were dumbfold and couldn't give me a satisfactory answer.

China has its plate full? Sup sup Soi.

Japan's creating jobs in China is a myth. They still have that fear because of their past mischief and the Chinese has no good regard for them especially in Nanjing. Japan probably has greater investment in Thailand than China inspite of the higher cost.

Who did you ask? People like you and me?

They were simply too stunned by your idiotic suggestion to even think about replying. Why should China go through a goddamn court to take back what rightfully belongs to it?

This I can agree. Japanese companies are not that aggressive in their setup and expansion in China until only recently, especially in the automotive industries, where the Germans had been the longest standing instead. My ex-colleague from Nanjing had also expressed his deep hatred for the Japanese on several occasions to me.

Like that, Malacca should also belongs to them lah.

This is following from your point of the discoverer is the owner. China never claimed Malacca because it was not traditionally a territory they regard as theirs but not so for many islands in the South China Sea. They probably have set foot on these earlier and more often than others. Japan's right was only through conquest. They are incorrigible.

Why do you say "rightfully belongs to it"? Explain if you are so smart.

the crux issue with Senkaku was China first discovered the islands but it was Japan who first exerted sovereignty over the islands in 1895.
did China provide some real evidences that they adminstrated the islands before 1895?

the Japanese were smart. they annexed Senkaku on Jan 1895. Qing dynasty ceded Taiwan and surrounding islands to Japan on April 1895. on paper, Senkaku got nothing to do with the annexation of Taiwan by Japan.

This could account for their loss in competitiveness versus countries like Korea and even some European countries in the past decade or so.

So far, I find that your reasoning is very valid. Historial claims without sovereignty rights is not a valid reason to justify the actual ownership.

No lah, more like different constituencies within the government. China has a strong national identity. What happened during in the past - foreigners coming in to divide (how they had to cede control of HK and Macau) and more recently, the invasion by Japan still fresh on mind.

Furthermore there is this change of leadership - and the new leaders cannot be seen as weak.

It has been said by some that the Chinese leaders are not firmly in control of the PLA. In other words, if the military wants to retaliate, no one can stop them.
