Friends or colleagues favour is different as long as there is no conflict of interest in an official capacity, whether perceived or otherwise.

This case you are talking about a senior Gov servant receiving gifts directly from a vendor or special interests who is also bidding for Gov contracts directly under your influence and control some more, of course is not allowed.
True. But I think his lawyer will use this as a excuse to get lightet sentence for him.

When the Govt tried to seek talent to lead S'pore, they hired mercenaries who demanded a starting salary of $1 million to "serve" the country. Greed knows no bounds. Despite being paid more than $1 million per year, Iswaran demanded freebies from Ong Beng Seng to further his business interests. This is the road that LKY and LHL has led SG down - to get "hired guns" to lead the country.

Malays worship Arab Muslims, but have no idea that the feelings are not mutual. The Muslims from the Middle East totally despise Malay and Indonesian believers.

The Arab Muslims are wise enough to smell their Austronesian aboriginal Muuds genes from far away hence delegate them to do these special tasks when Muuds want to become volunteers in the extremist's Jihad...:

It's a hint to the Muuds that they are of Jumban species, LOL.

" KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians who went to Syria and Iraq to join ISIS felt deceived and disappointed as they were tasked to do menial jobs such as cleaning toilets.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said these Malaysian recruits regretted their move as things in Syria were not what they imagined them to be.

"They were not involved in the battlefield. They regretted because they are given tasks to clean toilets or sweep rubbish or do other tasks that they do not consider to be for warriors," he said at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Dr Ahmad Zahid also said Malaysians who died while in Iraq and Syria were not directly involved in battle but were mere casualties due to the belief that they would become martyrs in the end. "

Lawyer Lim Tean ,

Incredulous!

This morning, I was alerted to the following report of what transpired yesterday morning when Iswaran was charged in the State Court:-

“Iswaran's lead lawyer, Senior Counsel Davinder Singh, then raised "a matter" with the judge on the number of charges.

He said: "Your honour, on Monday, the CPIB charged my client with 36 charges and took cautioned statements on all 36 charges. This morning, we learnt from documents that were handed to us by the prosecution that there are now 27 charges."

"I'd like to know from my learned friend whether the prosecution is proceeding with the remaining nine charges," said Mr Singh, turning to the chief prosecutor.

Chief Prosecutor Tan replied that the prosecution is not proceeding with the other nine charges after "considering all the evidence that was in this case".

Mr Singh then asked the court to note this decision.

"It would appear that in the matter of two days, a decision has been taken not to proceed with the nine charges," Mr Singh told the judge.

"According to my learned friend, that is because they have reviewed all the evidence. But I would have thought, your honour, that the evidence would've been reviewed thoroughly before the 36 charges were levelled against my client on Monday. And so, for now, all I would say is that it is surprising but highly significant that after what I assumed was a thorough review and the levelling of the nine charges, in a matter of two days, there has been a complete change of position. I will say no more about that for now," said Mr Singh.

In response, Chief Prosecutor Tan said: "I think my learned friend will understand that the evidence will include whatever the accused has stated in his cautioned statements. That's all I have to say so far. If my learned friend wants to pursue this subsequently we will address it in future."

To me this is the height of absurdity! How can what Iswaran say in his caution statement change the decision of the prosecution on proceeding with those 9 charges? The prosecution would already have decided to prosecute once it charges a person!

They would have decided to charge Iswaran with those 9 charges after reviewing all the statements he gave during investigations. How can those few lines he might have written in his caution statements possibly affect their decision? What an accused writes in the caution statement is his or her 1st reaction to the charge and may conceivably be relevant at trial.I find it laughable that the most senior prosecutor can come up with such a reason. Get real!

I am not wishing for Iswaran to face more charges. I understand the ordeal he and his family must be going through and I sincerely wish them well in their fight to clear his name. But I think the Public Prosecutor has a lot of explaining to do to the Singapore public as to why he withdrew those 9 charges for which they had already charged Iswaran with 2 days before in the CPIB!

Most of those things he received were merely tickets to shows and events.

If the value of those things were significantly lesser e.g. subtract one zero, $38.4k, would there have been such a public crucifixion? Public servants are not allowed to receive thank you gifts? Or just certain types of gifts from certain kinds of people?
