" allowed to die naturally " with the least intervention. Sometimes the doctors will ask the care givers whether they want doctors to resuscitate the patient if he collapses!!!

_ the exact words were " if she collapses she won't be candidate for ICU "

Y....Hospice, it can be very depressing. One day, you see a smiling young girl, the next day, she is gone. One day, a happy and cheerful uncle, the next day, gone ....Yes, very depressing working in the Hospice. Very depressing indeed....

That is not depressing. It is more depressing to see a skeletal figure lying on the bed and one month later, the same figure is still there.

as long as you do bad and commit evil, you are in hell. dying or living, you are in hell....believe in GOD OR NOT, as long as you do unwholesome things and commit unwholesome deeds, you will be in hell.....you will suffer.

I agreed, Yes, to see a terminally ill human being, lying helplessly in bed, incapable of understanding or doing anything, totally a vegetable state ...very depressive indeed.

I soo agree with this article,,,more effort and education campaigns need to be promoted to promote a painless death for critical ill patients. No point wasting resources to keep them alive for a bit longer,,and please these people are in pain,,not that they are doing the tango day in and day out.

Death is part of life,,so deal with it,,if they want to continue living and fuck up the future generations,,,its for their kids to decide..

A survey of more than 500 people here has found that they value being able to die at home more than an extra year of life. But right at the top of their list is being free from pain, the findings of a survey by the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and Lien Centre for Palliative Care showed.

They were willing to pay $24,000 a year to relieve severe pain, but only $9,100 to prolong life for another 12 months. In presenting the findings at a Lien Centre for Palliative Care conference on Wednesday, Dr Chetna Malhotra, an assistant professor at the centre, said what people value has implications on where government subsidies should go.

She asked: "Does it make sense for the Government to pay for expensive therapies to extend life?"

Based on the findings, she said "subsidies for end-of-life treatments may not be a good use of scarce resources". "Pain management is at least as critical as prospects for extending life when deciding treatment options."
