Since bros here start talking about headphones, i wanna share a value buy i bought from amazon. It's a pair of earbuds which is priced very cheap, but has performance as good as any $50-$120 earbuds. The only thing is need to change to a good ear tip. I used a sony ear tip and the sound was better than other earbuds i owned before. It is dirt cheap and for daily usage where i encounter drizzle, rain, wire toggle when pulling out from pocket, it is very worth it.

I am also looking at simplifying at how I listen to music. I hardly use my large Hi Fi system & it's just collecting dust. I'm happy to just listening to my iPod. Even the songs in my iPod are the same favourite songs:o

I was going through Amazon & came across the Nuforce brand. http://www.consumer.nuforce.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&layout=item&id=8&Itemid=745. Thinking of getting one of the Icon 2 units to see if it really improves the music I am currently listening to.

I remember reading about the better Wolfston DAC but if I use a decent sound amp wouldn't it be by-passing the the Wolfston DAC with something better i.e. the headphone amp:confused:

Hi, bro

Amp is amp. DAC is DAC. Totally two different components. See my humble setup below

Some amps have DAC built-in, just like the Nuforce Icon-2 you mentioned.

i know the agent here charge quite a lot more than the prices online.............how is it ? awesome boh ?

i like the fact that can change tubes but very, very hot right ?

Like it very much. It's a hybrid amp, with solid-state and tube components in it and goes really loud. Great for high impedance low sensitivity headphones like Senn HD600. Yeah it runs hot but then it's tubey mah....expected.

The guy I bought from has the excellent Burson 160 amp as well and I wanted to buy that initially. After auditioning, conclusion was that Burson and Lyr sounds surprisingly similar with the Lyr having that extra clarity and warmth. As it was so much cheaper ($350 vs $800 for Burson) so it was a no brainer for me to buy the Lyr.

Looking at the Bitfrost DAC but the agent here is really marking up damn high.

Yes, I dare dare said that. The seller had both the Lyr and Burson and he wanted to sell one of them cos both sound very similar. I tested both with Diana Krall's Live in Paris in 320kbps AAC format. One word: Awesome power.

The tubes were not stock ones FYI, the seller upgraded them.

Lovely Cubes looks good. Din know about them. Reminds me of my Onyx amp two decades back.

maybe the tubes very expensive so make Lyr beat the Burson..........

the Lovely Cube is actually the 2nd clone of the Lehmann Black Cube Linear...............M-Stage was the 1st clone...........but seems the Lovely Cube was the better clone:biggrin:

Selling sky-high and bragging about it's high fidelity.

More like chow-hai fidelity.

View attachment 8475

What a big attachment:eek: I'm looking for soemthing smaller:smile:

Are these capabilities supposed to be in different components?
I guess I am attracted to both amp & DAC capabilities because I'm trying to enhance the quality of MPEG files while I listening through headphones.

I went to Adelphi to look at what they have & visited a store named Jaben. They seem to specialise in headphones & one of the products I tried was by Centrance. It cost $800. Centrance is suppose to be working on a more flexible product, both an amp & DAC. It's called the M8 & might be the product I'm looking for http://centrance.com/products/hifi-m8/

This product is under development & f should be released by the 1st quarter of 2013.

Bro can you share with everyone here what is the brand of Taiwan cables you bought and are they interconnects or the speaker cables?

since they are affordably priced, can just buy to test run and see how they fare..

Thanks in advance

The brand is "Audio Spec". Get the 12 Gauge type with blue and black insulation. Most shops are selling at $4/m but its still cheap.

I use custom made pseudo balanced interconnects.

One more question is that why does it seem that audiophiles don't actually listen to pop, trance, hip hop you know something more up to date but prefer something that's more arty farty like classical or some genre of music in some foreign european language.

Its not that audiophiles only listen to arty farty music, its that a lot of systems out there are not capable of handling a lot of other music like dance, pop music etc. That's why you always see these hi fi shops using high infidelity CDs with vocals and simple instruments back ups (solo piano/guitar esp.). Vocals are easy to reproduce and single instrument is easy to handle. That's why you need to bring your fav CDs to these Hi Fi shops for testing.

The Hi Fi world is just like the wine world - full of snobs who will talk all day about their prized wine/HiFi instead of just using their ears and tongues to judge and enjoy. They will only go for the branded and expensive ones or else there will be nothing to boast about.

Having a separate DAC and amp means I can mix and match to get the right synergy.

Jabens stuff aren't cheap. Centrance are way overpriced.

If you dun mind used you can get some good bargains on the Jabens forum. Someone I know is selling the Icon HD for about $200+.
