Any computer experts here?

Thank you experts. Most likely I will pay the Ah bengs in Sim Lim. I should consider buying a new note book computer. Any forum members here remember the history of Sim Lim and how the old timers used Sim Lim to do illegal electronic counterfeits?

You can find out those blacklisted shops at SLS from HWZ.

Go challenger, their reputation is there so they will not want to risk cheating you. Things might not be the cheapest but u will not get cheated

I'm using a Lenovo ideapad u450p. It has this quirky bug of being able to turn on the integrated cam sometimes and sometimes not when booting up. Also, you can never know in advance which. at cold boot stage, you also dont have anywhere to turn it on. Anybody knows why and how?

Actually i do not wish to comment on China brands because i have blacklisted them. Don't you think that it's scary to have someone recording your private life and activities? I have read it somewhere on the internet that for a case like yours, your PC could have been hacked or a malware installed to control your webcam. You should immediately disable it or tape it with a black tape when not in use. The next thing you don't wanna see are video clips of your private life circulating on the web. I am not exaggerating but this should not be happening. Other than that it will have to be your software or hardware problem.

China brands got scary bad reputation I know. I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad that's been serving me well for past 6 years. It originally came with XP. Later I upgraded it to Vista on upgrade discount (about $50 only). Thought it's not upgradeable to Win7, the Lenovo + Vista combo has been working excellently well and should last at least 3 to 4 more years. That's value for money. In fact, no need money from me (except for the Vista upgrade) as I got it free from a SingNet subscription sign-on package.

The only trouble with Vista is that my old Office 2000 wouldn't work. I was offered another Office 2007 special discount at about $100+. Fuck it. I just download OpenOffice and it works perfectly well and free.

Windows 7 is the successor to Vista which was a flop. It's either that you stick to XP or upgrade to Win 7. Vista is something that Microsoft's technicians would like to forget. :D

I don't understand much of the discussion. Very cheem. Ha ha.

Most likely it's the memory module or motherboard that's faulty. If the Ah Bengs diagnose to be a memory module problem, replacement is straightforward. If it's a motherboard problem, you will be better off getting a complete new basic set (house brand, ~$300+ w/o Windows OS & monitor).
What's the brand and model of your current comp?

Thank you brothers and sisters. ( I assume there are ladies here?)

I bought a new ACER laptop computer. Cheap cheap sufficient for an old man like me. ha ha. Less than 1k.

Dear computer experts,

I want to type Chinese characters. Is it worth while to get those Chinese word writing pad from Sim LIm Square? The China girls are hot. (I hope they shave)

I saw their demo, it uses a computer pen to write on the computer writing pad, then the Chinese word will appear on screen.

i think this pad is convenient if you are good in writing chinese characters. I am using hanyu pinyin via microsoft ime, on my keyboard. so slower as need to spell out the han characters and select from the list.

Slow because Microsoft's predictive text input for Chinese characters is fucked ! You should try Mac's Chinese predictive text input. I had a "race" with a Taiwanese chap who used Taiwanese keyboard to key in Chinese characters. I beat him by more than a yard with Mac's using hanyu pinyin.

If you not use to keyboard use the writing pad is a good choice. Just bring down your laptop ask the girl to install for u. At the same time can Chikopek.

Agree. I saw the demo also. Good device but you must also be good in writing. Otherwise you keep checking dictionary even slower LOL

the Chinese writing pads at SLS are costly ( $200 and above ). for the causal users, one can consider buying a cheap one instead. a few months ago, I saw a shop at Funnan selling one at SGD$15, read the online reviews, not bad, can use.

Everything in SLS is expensive. If have PRC friend ask them buy for you in China.

Thanks. I do not know how to use Hanyu Pinyin

Your picture of the eye, on first glance I thought it look like something else
