Any computer experts here?

Hi

Any forum members here who are good with computers? My computer sometimes restart by itself for no reason. It only happened recently. I know I can brig it down to the Sim Lim Square and ask the Ah Bengs to solve the problem for me and pay them some good money.

I thought I might learn new things myself. Are there anything I can do on my own? Is it the computer parts that are spoilt? What should I look out for if I open up my computer casing.

Thank you.

It is either some hardware problems plaguing your PC, Video Card, Ram or even the Motherboard, best you get the PC down to Sim Lim Square before you can not even boot up & your HDD died!!

Interesting suggestion that usually worked in the past. However, I recently went around SLS for window shopping. When I asked around, all said reinstall CDs will not be provided. How then to reformat and reinstall with new computers?

reinstall what CD?

Based on the brief description of your problem, i can only point it to your comp automatically restarts after MS automatic updates. And it's 99.9% that you are a Windoze user. :D

reinstall what CD?

In the past, when I bought computers for home or office, they came with reinstallation CDs. That is, a CD that will reformat and reinstall Windows to the state as if it was first bought. All you need to do is to backup data files on a thumbdrive. Then run the CD and restore the computer, all viruses dead and cremated.

The only thing Mr Google don't have a possible answer for is why the PAP is so fucked up!

It should be some reboot viruses. Windows updates always warn before rebooting giving user choice of rebooting now or later.

Every OEM PC / Laptops comes with recovery management software, all pre-installed. Just make sure that you have the windoze serial key sticker attached to it.

The windows default time setting is 10 mins. Of course the joke would be that CF was so engrossed with his activity that he misses it. If he gets a BSOD, then to view the error message you need to disable automatic restart under CP. If the message says that problem could arise from a recent hardware or software installation and he couldn't trouble shoot it, time to back up data and do recovery. :D

actually bro.... no need CD also can reinstall for oem pc or labtop. So even you did not create the recovery disk also can reset to factory default.

All OEM pc has a recovery drive, as long as the user did not get rid of it (its usually hidden anyway), all you have to do is enter the setup and hit reset to factory default. the recovery drive will act as a CD. as to hit what button to enter the screen.....well different brand different button. you have to keep trying from f1 to f9. sometimes it might be a combination of clt and shift. you have to check your manual in ur pc.

This is not like the xp era that need disk, i think since vista they changed into this that why stop giving out disk. But if your hard disk is dead.....good luck. so its still a good idea to create the recovery disk. Even if you replace a new hard disk, slot in the recovery disk it will automatically configure itself to partition hard drive a portion for the recovery.

just to add, recovering this way will cause everything in ur C to disappear, but if i do not recall wrongly things in D drive will be safe.

anyway for my laptop as i hate the oem window version i killed everything LAUGH. so mine is just a normal win 7 with bare minimum and it actually made by laptop flies without all the silly stuff by asus

It's usually located in D drive where the manufacturer will store it. And you can wipe it out by reformatting it. :D Doing backups in CDs or external drives are additional tasks.

Yup. Located in BIOS.

Please clean the MB and CPU fan. CPU overheat will auto cut off to prevent damage. Clean and clear all the dust.

unless you know what you are doing, i think majority of the normal pc user its best to leave it alone. Personally i find it quite useful and handy when tons of my pc idiot frens got themselves into deep soup. Click of button you can reset everything to factory default.

But... there are also tons of user like me that hates the OEM version that comes with tons of useless software that slows down the laptop and prefer to slim down to the bare minimum. end of the day it really depends on what you want or expect.

Yes warranty will be void too but who needs them right? :D OEM PCs / Laptops are always a good deal and cheaper as the package will include the OS, bundled with free hardware and softwares. A retail CD would otherwise cost you a few hundred dollars. But seriously i don't need the OEM OS at all. In the case of Windows 7, one can just download the Ultimate AIO version in 32 or 64 bit. Then apply the WAT removal and you can receive MS updates like a genuine user with no problems.

I'm not computer expert, just a user. This is a question that bewilders me. I hear people say why need Windows and IE? Go download Linux or Ubuntu or something, Firefox or Chrome or something. How do you buy a computer without Windows (except Apple)? How do you connect to internet to download without Windows in the first place. If Windows and IE are working fine as OS and browser, why the hell do you want to waste time to download something else?

linux and ubuntu for normal user don't bother. i am not sure about other field, for example in chemistry side for NMR ( a kind of instruments similar to MRI) , there is actually free software for linux (forget which distrubution) to process the data. this is just one of the examples. However for windows that software cost a bomb. I believe this might be similar for other field of specialisation as well.

Buy a computer without windows is easy, just go down sim lim square build your own box.

Still doesn't answer the question, sorry. With an empty computer, no OS no browser, how to download?

no os no browser install then. linux can be made into bootable disk. there are also shops that sell pc with linux pre-installed if you bother to find

IC. Thanks. Anyway I hope my computer can last many years more, very boring changing computers.

however my experience with linux has not being very good, due to the lack of support for drivers. so unless you know what you are doing and the purpose of you switching.

if everything is working well and you already had everything you need for your job, linux is not for you. don't bother not worth the effort to explore.
