Not in my neighbourhood, please. In the latest example of Singaporeans not wanting certain amenities in their estate, a group of Bishan residents are clamouring for a nursing home to be sited elsewhere.
The Ministry of Health plans to build a 260-bed nursing home on a 0.3ha site facing three blocks of flats in Bishan Street 13
TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT
The old folk will be groaning right into my home.
- Mr Bernard Lau, who lives in Block 182
At a dialogue held at Bishan Community Club on Sunday to discuss the issue, about 20 residents voiced their opposition. Some wanted the Government to scout for other sites while others lamented the loss of the site which is now used as a football field.
>>>LOL.. the groans must be very loud. Maybe the old folks use getai quality speakers. And those who lamented on the loss of use of a football field must be very avid football fans. Sad lah... such strange excuses people give all in the name of property devaluation and bad feng shui. Why cant people be a bit forthcoming and just say what is on their mind.
Every one will get old. It doesn't guarantee your children will offer u a place to stay. If aging is a problem, the govt is just trying to solve it now. All the reported reasons above are excuses. To me, heartless and ridiculous excuses.
So what if the stateland decided to be built condominium instead? The same football field will be gone, the more electricity will need to be paid, will there be voices like this?
Another resident, 41-year-old Bernard Lau, said 'the old folk will be groaning right into my home'.
I'm speechless. Literally speechless.
I lived in a Uni Campus Student Accommodation right across the road from a Nursing Home in Australia. THE ONLY "NOISE" the Nursing HOME made that was inconvenient to us nearby Residents is the FREQUENT SIREN form AMBULENCE (abt. 2x per day). That was a mixed dependency Nursing home, ranging form INDEPENDENT Dwellers (like retirement village) to the HIGH=DEPENDENCY CARE Residents in a 4 story Block (requiring 24 hr round the clock nursing care).
Otherwise, a NURSING HOME was much Quieter ALL DAY than any Regular HDB Block of Flats.
IT IS DEFINITELY NOT going to be like 41 y.o Bishan Reisdent BERNARD LAU who said:"the Old Folks will be groaning Right into my homer". THIS IS JUST A REFLECTION OF BAD TASTE & COMPLET IGNORANCE on the part of this SINGAPOREAN man. THIS is XENOPHOBIASADLY, the Harsh Reality is that SINGAPORE still has a long way to go B4 it becomes a GRACIOUS SOCIETY
