A 23-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment for sex with a minor in a VivoCity nursing room, which resulted in the girl's pregnancy.
The girl, who was 14 at the time, later underwent an abortion.
The two began chatting about their mutual interests in games.
The man was informed about the victim's age at this point.
The two stopped contacting each other afterwards.
In May 2025, the man texted the victim to ask if she wanted to reconnect.
The two then started texting again and went on several dates together.
There was no physical contact apart from holding hands with each other.
On Jun. 12, 2025, at about 7pm, the two met at VivoCity.
At about 8:30pm that same day, the man brought the victim to a public nursing room in the mall.
He locked the door, and the two had penetrative sex without a condom.
On Aug. 18, 2025, the victim's teachers learned about it and informed her mother, who then brought her to KK Women's and Children's Hospital for a check-up.
A police report was also made.
Checks at the hospital revealed that the victim was about 10 weeks pregnant.
A paternity test was conducted using the foetus' and the man's blood samples, and the result certified that man was the biological father.
The prosecution submitted that the man not using a condom and exposing the victim to the risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases was an aggravating factor. The judge concurred.
The judge also concurred that the harm caused by the man's actions was severe as the victim had to "undergo an invasive and traumatic abortion procedure at the tender age of 14".
He was sentenced to 15 months in jail.
He had previously appealed the sentence, but later decided to discontinue the appeal.
