Not in my neighbourhood, please. In the latest example of Singaporeans not wanting certain amenities in their estate, a group of Bishan residents are clamouring for a nursing home to be sited elsewhere.

The Ministry of Health plans to build a 260-bed nursing home on a 0.3ha site facing three blocks of flats in Bishan Street 13

TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT

The old folk will be groaning right into my home.

- Mr Bernard Lau, who lives in Block 182

At a dialogue held at Bishan Community Club on Sunday to discuss the issue, about 20 residents voiced their opposition. Some wanted the Government to scout for other sites while others lamented the loss of the site which is now used as a football field.

>>>LOL.. the groans must be very loud. Maybe the old folks use getai quality speakers. And those who lamented on the loss of use of a football field must be very avid football fans. Sad lah... such strange excuses people give all in the name of property devaluation and bad feng shui. Why cant people be a bit forthcoming and just say what is on their mind.

Every one will get old. It doesn't guarantee your children will offer u a place to stay. If aging is a problem, the govt is just trying to solve it now. All the reported reasons above are excuses. To me, heartless and ridiculous excuses.

So what if the stateland decided to be built condominium instead? The same football field will be gone, the more electricity will need to be paid, will there be voices like this?

Another resident, 41-year-old Bernard Lau, said 'the old folk will be groaning right into my home'.
I'm speechless. Literally speechless.

I lived in a Uni Campus Student Accommodation right across the road from a Nursing Home in Australia. THE ONLY "NOISE" the Nursing HOME made that was inconvenient to us nearby Residents is the FREQUENT SIREN form AMBULENCE (abt. 2x per day). That was a mixed dependency Nursing home, ranging form INDEPENDENT Dwellers (like retirement village) to the HIGH=DEPENDENCY CARE Residents in a 4 story Block (requiring 24 hr round the clock nursing care).

Otherwise, a NURSING HOME was much Quieter ALL DAY than any Regular HDB Block of Flats.
IT IS DEFINITELY NOT going to be like 41 y.o Bishan Reisdent BERNARD LAU who said:"the Old Folks will be groaning Right into my homer". THIS IS JUST A REFLECTION OF BAD TASTE & COMPLET IGNORANCE on the part of this SINGAPOREAN man. THIS is XENOPHOBIASADLY, the Harsh Reality is that SINGAPORE still has a long way to go B4 it becomes a GRACIOUS SOCIETY

These Bishan protestors will never grow old. They will never grow toothless. They will never fall sick and ill. They will never be abandoned,be lonely and be handicapped. They will never suffer any illnesses and handicaps when they grow old. They will never suffer any heart attacks and strokes. They will live forever with their children and with their spouses forever in a healthy and fruitful comfortable home. They will never be left alone. They will never grow old and sick and die.....They will never be placed in a nursing home....

Such ungraciousness and contempt for a nursing home....near their homes. This sort of attitude will bring them nearer death, nearer sickness and nearer old age and nearer loneliness in double quick time.

We must learn to respect the old.In fact those people who protested the most should volunteer and help in the nursing homes instead of making so much noise making protests even before the nursing home is built...oh dear!!!! Old uncle will never want to go to Bishan again....Remember Bishan Estate is sited in a cemetery....no wonder!!!

Respect old gum lan? They also don't increase our GDP by much. Hardly indispensable to the economy. Majulah PAP! :D

I bet you these bloody protesters are selfish bastards...and they are the ones who voted for PAP.

PAP breeds this kind of mentality...

This govt is also not so smart. Just tell them they can choose between FT dormitory or Old Olks home. Guarantee you Bernard Lau will start singing praises about how convenient to visit his mother there.

with is type of sinking mentality, singapore has no hope for the future. these bishan residents who protested will have to eat their words when they grow old - lonely, homeless, uncared for, neglected, sick and languishing along the corridors or dying alone in their own tiny toilets and treasured apartments...

a society who breed such sinking mentality is doomed to die a painful death...not i old say this. this is the wisdom of the ancient. you don't respect your parents, you suffer. you don't respect your elderly citizens, you die a miserable death. you neglect your fellow citizens at your own peril. so bishan residents think again.....

Why not let them choose between a cemetery and the nursing home?

they are already sleeping above a cemetery....the nursing home is to help them ease their sins. instead they pile up their sins higher.i pity them.
