It was the discipline during the NS days, which I learned to do my own laundry and iron my clothes.
I am an old guy.
To this day, I still iron my clothes, other than sending suits and those items which need to be dry cleaned.

Well, if you ask me, I am still undecided as it has its pros and cons.
I have seen my JC male friends who are "boy next door" type turning into a "beast" after NS. When they open their mouths, it is either crude foul language or a typical singlish-hokkien version of English - neither here nor there kind of language. It puzzles me what they do in NS.
On the contrary, I have JC male friends who went through NS and they become more independent.

My attitude regarding NS was that since I have no choice, I will do my best, and go as far as possible, and try to learn and enjoy those 2.5 years.
Looking back, I was young, too serious, too "on the ball", and too "garang".
