although future is bleak, sg can turn the large regional muslim market to her advantage. she can target the high end lifestyle segment of the wealthier, fatter and more privileged muslim brotherhood going out of their ways to make a significant difference from ordinary yusuf. sg can call herself the creative circumcision customization center of cockcraft. instead of just cutting off foreskin casually, the ccccc can cater to customers with carloads of cash in classy circumstances. civet coffee is concocted by catlike chicks with cleavages and carried on copperware to customers while they wait their turn for circumcision in comfort. the ultimate experience is carried out by doctoress cutyorkorkov (foreign talent from ukraine), and her specialization is circumcision by oral surgery. customers get to consume civet coffee, get circumcised and get to cum all at the same time. customization and specialization for the opulent are keys to sg's survival.
Unless SG is of such strategic significance to another country, it is not wise to hope and depend on that country to defend SG. SG doesnt have strategic resources like oil...so other countries may just pay lip service and give moral support. But will that country risk its well being because SG is a good friend? i think not.
SG must, as much as possible, be self reliant. But can SG be self reliant on food? That's where the weakness of pap shows...It hopes to have 6.5 m people. But can it feed these people without in times of conflict? Military is not the only key reliance. Sustainability is a key factor. With increased population, SG has to source further and pay more for food...An enemy need not conquer SG militarily. It can choke SG's key lines and prevent food from reaching SG. Economic dominance is equally important as military dominance. An economically superior country can make a weaker country go on its knees without firing a shot.
So good friendly neighbours are important. Make friends rather than enemy if you can..but carry a big stick!
The underlying thinking of the PAP is that whatever they are doing, they are doing it for the good of Singapore. Singaporeans happen to be just people living in Singapore. They are expendable resources. If necessary, they can and will be sacrificed for the greater good of Singapore.
As a result of this thinking, we now have a Singapore with skyscapers, highways and other imposing impressive physical infrastructure. We have reserves which are reportedly so huge that they are the eny of many countries. We however also have many poor Singaporeans who have a living standard which is below many in Third World countries. The annual UBS study shows that on average, the purchasing power of Singapore wages is roughly equivalent to Russia. The average Malaysian living in KL enjoys wages which have higher purchasing power that the average Singaporean.
Singapore is therefore in no way doomed. Under the current PAP government, Singapore will continue to prosper. There will be ever taller skyscapers, bigger highways and larger reserves. This prosperity is however built on the tears and blood of ordinary Singaporeans. Under the PAP, it is Singaporeans who are doomed.

i believe the fact that we are in a hostile neighbourhood is very real.
How friendly can you get? They will never be happy until the day we die and end up like Kukup. The fact that we are not a Muslim country is already a sore thumb sticking in the region. From Java to Southern Thailand, and Southern part of Philippines is known as Muslim sphere of influence except a little red dot right about the centre of this "sphere". What does it mean to these leaders- whose land mass is many many times larger than us? But we have GDP many times greater than them.

LKY said so in his book, they tried to attract rich Muslims from Middle East to Singapore, fail terribly, they prefer Mudland or Indon due to privileges accorded.
True..that's why we are challenging that the assumption is wrong. The purpose of the SG govt shd be two fold:
1. For the good of SG
2. For the good of all Singaporeans.
If it is just for the good of SG and Singaporeans dont benefit, the pap has failed in its responsibilities.
worse is that the pap is working for the good of MNCs and foreigners.. that's treason against Singaporeans.
The pap tries to mitigate their shortcoming by saying that what they are doing is for the future good of SG. I dont buy their claims

Singaporeans must be at the centre of their policy making..and present Singaporeans must benefit from good governance. the pap must not be allowed to always tell Singaporeans to tighten their belts and sacrifice now..to prepare for bad times...we have been lied to for 50yrs. when can Singaporeans relax a little and get to enjoy their sacrifices? looks like the pap ministers are the ones enjoying themselves and the citizens are always sacrificing ...
What if the govt treated MNCs very badly and taxed them at a rate 50% higher than a local company, would that be a positive move?
Skyscrapers can be destroyed in an instant. Values and character moulding are perennial.
Build a good citizenry and the country will prosper. Neglect them for short term economic growth and SG wont last
I like your optimism. I too wish that SG will last and prosper, provided we have a good govt which cares for the people

Go back to my premise in Post#29 that SG govt shd work for the good of SG and Singaporeans.
If that is their goal, the pap will not overtax and drive away MNCs, neither will it overburden Singaporeans.
What we are asking for is a wise govt that has balanced policies for the good of the country and its people. Many Singaporeans do not see the pap as wise and good now because of its skewed policies

The PAP idealogy is that MNCs and foreigners are good for Singapore. They therefore pursue extreme policies to court them. It does not matter that these policies are implemented at the expense of Singaporeans. For example to sustain ridiculously low corporate tax rates, we have ever higher GST. They give all expense paid scholarships for foreign children to attend university in the limited number of university places. At the same time, they will deny Singaporean children the chance to go to university and send them to get a second class Poly diploma.
In the eyes of the PAP, it all makes perfect sense. This is because they are working for the good of Singapore rather than for the good of Singaporeans.

Very true..that's why the pap mindset has to change..investing in people is better than investing only in infrastructure. Singaporeans must not be neglected
Besides the US, Singapore do enjoy excellent relationships with Australia, Canada, Britain and etc. Having special American interests is a good thing and by being a bastion for the Americans in a Muslim-dominated region it is in our own interests to keep it that way. It does not mean alienating ourselves from our neighbours. We do want to have good relations with all our neighbours, why should we not?
good point...why do wise and successful people want to migrate to SG which the pap has acknowledged is not even a country? what kind of future SG holds for these peopl who can go to truly 1st world countrie? The rich people who come here are opportunists, not true good citizen material...they probably have many escape routes shd SG fail

What the pap succeeded is to attract third world people to SG . These people will be big burdens to SG in the future. The pap fails to attract the truly talented to SG
