Don't have to worry for him. His wife is a ranking princess in one of biggest triads in HK and by way of marriage, he's an honorary white fan. He flies bewteen Singapore, HK, Macau and Hainan more often than the average Singaporean takes taxi. His travel budget alone qualifies for priority banking. Not to worry. We won't sue each other. We're just sparring buddies with occasional arguments and disagreements. Both of us are runroad experts. We know it's futile to sue runroad experts anyway, especially when I'm on retainer representation with A&G.

I don't know how many know, but in a defamation suit a client's public behaviour matters, because there is no point for the judge to grant you rights to your fame when you have been squandering it in the other direction calling others insects, idiots, imbeciles and what have not. The judge will at most dismiss the allegations against him as nasty remarks in response to his provocation, and not defamatory remarks.

Defamation is all about damage done through words and damages to be compensated. A scavenger or vagabond can't sue somebody for defamation even if insulted, since he has no reputation to begin with, therefore no further damage can be done whatever insult has been uttered and inflicted.

I'm not referring to anyone in particular. I'm just referring to a point in law as put forth eloquently and successfully by the late George Carmen QC in defence of JBJ against GCT. In that case, Carmen put forth an articulate preamable and argument. Although GCT as PM surely had a reputation to begin with, it wasn't damaged by whatever JBJ said since he still led PAP to a comfortable nationwide 70% popular-vote victory and even the hottest contested Cheng San GRC was successfully defended. And in fact, in that particular GE, GCT-led PAP reduced opposition-held wards from four to two.

Civil law is different from criminal law. You can try to stab a person unsuccessfully but still be liable for attempted murder under criminal law. There's no such thing as attempting to defame a person unsuccessfully under civil law, in this case. The degree of damage must be proved to be awarded compensation accordingly.

On the other side of the coin, LKY can't sue any scavenger or vagabond for calling him a dog too. Their words would be deemed to carry no substance or damage.
