Singaporeans have won quite some worthy trophies and medals before. No ministers went to airport to greet or garland them. It's a privilege only for FTs.

You know why? Singaporeans are taken for granted. FTs went through a process of scouting that's endorsed and funded by the ministry directly. When they hit any success, the minister takes the trouble to show the whole Singapore and the world that his decision on the selection was correct. Singaporeans? Bleah!

As an FT, the government scouted for you and promised you this and that for the rest of your life in Singapore.

As a Singaporean, the government promised you nothing, you come and contest on your own free will.

Taiwan opposed Wu Jia Qing's move to Singapore and put many stumbling blocks in his way including draughting him into the army. However this may not the the reason for his change of mind. Mainland Chinese companies were throwing money his way for product endorsements. You do the maths, private enterprise or government sponsorship, adulation of a country who will be proud of his achievements or the scorn of a people who bitches about FT invasion?

This bright young man is now a citizen of PRC.
