democracy. it shows that nothing is fair and balanced as you ideally think it is. the whole shhbang is gamed favorably for whoever is in control of the entire process...a reason why casinos have such a thing as a house advantage. the only event a casino fears is a freak event, when something is outside its comfort zone and out of its influence and control, such as math wizards figuring out the odds and outsmarting the house with patience and a long deliberate series of deceptive gamesmanship never seen before by the casino.
I'm surprised to hear that from a bay area dweller with Reno and Tahoe within driving distance and in recent years with casino right in town. Though I'm no casino aficionado, just occasional casual visitor. Casino must have an house edge. Where do you think the money to build and maintain and staff the casino comes from? All gamblers, professional and casual, accept it's fair and play on.
It's declared edge on the brochures in the racks if anyone care to pick up one and read before tabling the chip. It has nothing to do with cheating, which is when a card turns out bad and you try to switch the card or something like that. In the long run, the actuarially calculated will ensure the casino a reasonable profit but there're still a healthy number of winners.
That's the business and yes, it's a business, not a charity or fair fight. In a fair fight, the casino would have to ask the players to pay rent first. The gamers know damn well, they're not trying to get luckier than the casino, they're trying to get luckier than other gamers.
