Since many HDB residents are not well to do, giving them the option to rent out their homes for Airbnb may be a godsend. As not all flats are purchased at subsidised rates, sweeping restrictions preventing these assets from being used to churn additional income for their owners, should not apply across the board. The govt must consider home-sharing carefully and how it fits in with their asset-enhancement policy for public housing.
 
Then National Development Minister Lawrence Wong told Housing Board flat residents in 2017 that their units are stored value assets and a nest-egg for their retirement needs. Since then, several PAP Ministers have been quoted that public flats are intended to be permanent homes and not used to profit their owners. Can our overrated, overhyped and overpaid Ministers get their act together by not contradicting each other?
 
How can use subsidised public housing to earn money? If you can rent out means you donch need the HDB…give it to someone else who needs it more.

I repeat what PM Lawrence Wong told Housing Board flat residents when he was National Development Minister, that their units are stored value assets and a nest-egg for their retirement needs. HDB lessees are tenants who are allowed to rent out rooms to sub-tenants, so the only difference for BNB tourists is that they are short-term sub-lessees.

The movement of tourists going in and out of HDB flats is no different from noisy neighbours and unsavoury long term tenants who are every bit as annoying. The presence of strangers is already a common sight at most HDB estates since there is no restriction of access to deliverymen, salespersons, contractors, befrienders from voluntary welfare organisations etc. These strangers may also create unease or pose a potential threat to residents.
 
I prefer to keep all the CECAs in condos. The pools in ActiveSG will be cleaner without the CECAs.
Most owners of private condos are not in dire need of supplementary income from Airbnb or other forms of short term rental. Most landlords of private properties would prefer long term leases that do not entail the encumbrance and hassle of dealing with multiple short term tenants. Should short term tenants create a commotion, flat lessees may turn to the HDB or police to intervene. How different is this to summoning a condo’s security personnel or management to take action?

The problem for doing this, later on, hdb will becum a chicken farm.
 
Can. Amend the tenancy agreement so hdb can earn revenue sharing like reits. Collect more money is never bad! :thumbsup:

The PAP's money grabbing policies have made SG unliveable; it is simply too expensive for the masses.
