It's just another cold virus. It is causing deaths among the elderly at the moment because they don't have any immunity against it.

However once it spreads throughout the younger segment of the population a certain level of immunity will protect the current generation once they get old just as the 1918 Spanish flu protected the old when H1N1 came along.

However there will always be mutations and mankind simply has to accept the fact that every once in a while a certain percentage of the population will succumb.

We tolerate deaths from road accidents without exercising the option of closing roads so pandemics will have to be treated in a similar manner.
