pls lah, the thai are stupid , even if they can get it to work, it will be so inefficient that ship will prefer to come to singapore.
 
Given what I know of the geography of the Isthmus of Kra, a canal is possible, but it will not be a single water canal like Suez. Instead it will be like the Panama Canal with many locks to take ships through. This has at least 2 impacts: construction will be very costly, and it will be time consuming for ships to go through.

So, we must look at how much time is saved with the building of the canal. A trip down the Straits of Malacca to Singapore probably does not take enough time to justify the expensive construction of the Kra Canal and the time it takes to clear it.

Also, while ports in the Gulf of Siam and Vietnam may look good on the map, the yearend NE monsoons have another opinion. Indeed, attempts to build ports anywhere along the shore of the South China Sea have been thwarted by the need for these ports to be closed for several months a year.
 
U brought up a good point,..,,Suez canel is popular as it cuts down the time to travel dramatically. For the Straits of Malacca the distance is not that bad,,,and the cost so high to build, it might not be worth it. But the Ah tiongs have alot of money to throw,,they might just do it so that they get the technological expertise and their people have work,,,

If the Kra canel is built and its a series of interlocks, it will not justfiy the cost as like in the Panama and suez canals the ships have to wait at one end just to cross,I heard the waiting time is 1 week on average,,by the time they get over, they might as well have gone through the Straits,,,

You can build the Kra canal without locks, but the length will be maybe 50% longer. But the economics for shipowners to use the canal will not be sufficient enough to pay for it as it will save 4 sailing days the most.
If the Chinese build the Kra canal, it will be to make tawei more strategic. That means the canal will start somewhere near tawei and ends somewhere west of Bangkok. It will be longer, cuts through mountains etc. they will flatten the whole thing to ensure no locks. but the result will be a new economic corridor for both Myanmar, thailand and china. after all, the Chinese built the grand canal 500 years ago to link the hangzhou to Beijing. With modern machinery, this canal will be easy.

Paiseh hor... The Chinese grand canal also have several locks along the way. Ships also cannot just bypass malaaca straits, especially containers ships they pick up or drop off containers along their routes.

Nothing wrong with the Kra Canal... it's like the MCE giving motorists a shortcut to get from AYE to ECP, or vice versa.

I look forward to seeing its completion, hopefully within my lifetime.
 
Because the Singapore government allowed the USA government to station its military assets and ships here in Singapore to try to help the USA government to try to contain China and choke off oil supply to China so obviously China had to do something to counter Singapore and cause Singapore to collapse as a lesson to Singapore not to be a boot licker of the USA government.

So now China is making a canal through Thailand to by pass and divert all shipping from Singapore.

So Singapore's future is now very bleak due to this big mistake of the Singapore government in trying to help the USA government to try to contain China.

It is a very very stupid idea for the Singapore government to take the side of the USA government and to try to contain China.

China has a very very long memory and you can be very sure that one day,when China become the world's most powerful nation which would likely happen in less than 5 years from now,China will surly pay Singapore back for siding with the USA to try to contain China.

The worst thing about this siding with the USA is that the ancestors of most people in Singapore are from China and here we have the Singapore government acting in cahoots with the USA government to try to contain China which is the land of our motherland and the land where most of our ancestors come from and this is simply unacceptable.

This policy of the Singapore government to work with the USA government to contain China makes me feel really outraged at such gross injustice that we are supporting a war mongering country the USA rather than China a peace loving nation.

China is a peaceful nation and its trade and investments has benefitted many nations in asia while the USA government always engage in war mongering and instigation of conflicts all thoughout the world so it makes no sense for the Singapore government to support the USA government by allowing USA military assets and ships to make use of the facilities in Sinagapore for their war mongering.

What happens if there is a real military conflicts between the USA and China and China decides to destroy the USA assets stationed in Sinagpore using nuclear bombs so what will haappen to all the people of Singapore...???

We Singaporeans will all die from the nuclear bombs and all because we supported the war mongering USA government.

A nuclear bomb from China in retaliation will ensure that Singaporeans become an extinct human species,all because of our support for the war mongering USA government.
 
IN my opinion we should support the peaceful side which is China or at the very least we should just remain neutral.

I suggest that the Singapore government deny the use of Singapore to the USA military ,otherwise China might teach Singapore a lesson eventually one day for siding with the USA government in an attempt to contain China.

Singapore government should just wake up and be independent from the USA government.

We are an independent nation so why should we be led around the nose by the USA government...????

SHANGHAI – In a bid to improve its links with Southeast Asia, China is planning to build a high speed railway to Singapore. The railway as intended will travel at up to 200 km/h and run from China’s southern provincial capital of Kunming, in Yunnan, to Laos’ capital Vientiane, before continuing on through Thailand. The train will then travel to Bangkok and onward to Malaysia before ending up in Singapore.
