I know the MSM is bottom of the heap but we are not to North Korea's extent...even Burmese are more savvy although they also got their controlled press.

Bashing Malaysia was also a favorite rhetoric of the Old Fossil, and some overly patriotic twits here do it too, with snide remarks about Mudland and taunting people who do not like it in Singapore to fuck off to Malaysia. Which, incidentally, may not be a bad idea once the Iskandar thing gets up and running. At least you don't have to contend with living in a congested shithole with skyrocketing inflation.

The key to PM's speech is self-reliance. You look at Finland and the other welfare states. The states bears a large part of the cost, but is their system better? No!

The model of self-reliance is in the US ...do you know the state of US healthcare? Even they are better than us as upon 65, all Americans enjoy government-funded healthcare.

PM's speech is all about forward planning and accepting harsh realities. That is why I have been swayed.

I've never witnessed a leader so in tune with the hopes and aspirations of society. I've lived in the UK, Australia and the US and sat through speeches by politicians which don't contain even 5% of the substance that PM Lee delivered last night.

Let me tell you that when it comes to healthcare, housing and education, Singaporeans have it better than pretty much every other country.

While the physical constraints of the Island make it impossible for everyone to own landed property, I have not come across any other country where the government is so actively involved in housing the population.

When it comes to healthcare and education, the schemes introduced take Singapore a notch above the Western world. If you don't believe me, do your own research.
