SMRT Strike - The National Interest Perspective

As I said before. Everything in SG is very costly(rental/fuel/car/medical...........) compare to other country except labor cost is the lowest in 1st world country.

Exactly! The Nicaraguan did his sums and decided that $65 per hour is a fair wage. The American has higher overheads living in the USA so he won't work for less than $150 per hour.

Extend the argument to drivers from various parts of our globalised world and it's pretty obvious that different deals will be struck with different parts of the world. I see nothing wrong with paying different rates to different nationalities.

sure, pay a chinaman china-level wages and make him live in london. your iq is going down the drain. there's a glaring hole in your logic.

The logic is sound because part of the Chinaman pay packet includes board and lodging plus transport. The higher overheads of Singapore therefore do not enter into the equation.

All they have to do is drive for the period of their contract and take home a princely sum at the end of the deal.

The irony is that Workers Party seems to be disinterested in labour issues like this one, least about protecting workers' right regardless of race, sex or nationality.

WP only cares about the rich. First they fought for Parking space for the landed property owners. Now they are questioning the minister in Parliament about safety and potential break in at landed property area. The know the loser retarded opposition supporting moron will vote for them no matter what, no need to care about them even when shit hits the fan

If you really want to help, then fight for our poor NS boys cos they were forced to do NS at slave pay! Fucking morons fighting for foreigners instead of own citizens.

You do have a point there. The boys are grossly underpaid.

I disagree violently vehemently and categorically with a nationality-blind labour and immigratiion policy. Anyone advocating such nonsense that foreign workers must be treated fairly should be condemned as anti-Singaporean. If that is the case then why Singaporeans first?

Singaporeans shld be paid and treated best, Malaysians second, PRCs and others third, and India Indians last. Any political party or politician that champions human rights on this case shows that they know nothing about the last GE issues that brought down a GRC. That is why GMS did not win and LTK did.
I have a slightly different take. I think the ultimate aim is to create an environment that sinkies get first priority in jobs. Hence in whatever job given to FW, a very heavy levy must be imposed such that it is expensive to hire any FW. Only with this measure will employers seriously look for sinkies first, and also implement productivity improvements.

If there is really no sinkie able to do the job, then will employers be forced to hire FW with a heavy levy.

The government sector must also announce regularly the proportion of sinkies vs FW in the entire civil service.

PAP has carried the globalization and capitalism concepts too far.

I was waiting for the various opposition parties like SDP, WP and NSP to issue statements with regards to this SMRT saga but after 48 hours of this incident, none of them have issued any press statement.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

Hello, how to issue statement when the matter is still under investigation?
A good politician doesn't jump the gun.

That's why tampines voters chose MBT over him in spite of national hatred for MBT. The voters have eyes and not stupid. They will vote for a dog over MBT, and yet some people still can lose:eek:

Kaptan Goh Meng Seng,

why don't you win a seat in parliament first then you can talk for all you want.

no lodging was provided to msian drivers plus msians may have to shuttle between spore and jb on their trusty cub kia while ah tiong lodging was provided and transport provided to ferry them to and fro from dorm to bus terminals. so the couple hundred different is justify.

since FWs are not cheap to hire so why some many companies still insist on FWs, the reason very simple, FWs need to pay "introduce fee" to agent back where they came from and the agents will use part of this "fee" to entice HR managers to recruit his "clients". not small $$ hor, one ah tiong recruited will return the manager at least $2-3k of tax free money.

Clap clap clap.........................
Have a good chance beat MBT aka enemy of citizen. But cant win.............????????????????

oi, this is copyright material which i said in post #20

what i know is that the PRCs have accomodation provided, not so sure about the malaysians. but the exploitation of bus drivers has been around eversince smrt took over TIBS. my melayu friend who was a bus driver in the 80's to 90's told me that in TIBs, he still have OT with basic. after smrt took over, they abolish OT. see how the previous CEO,(i am sorry to say but i really find her very stupid!) she really screw up smrt in a big manner, from trains to buses and taxis(the screw up is still in progress...)

Honesty, who is right or wrong doesn't matter.
What matters most is, PAP is challenged!
And we should be grateful to those PRCs whose ignorance are exposing the weakness of the exploiter.

You do have a point there. The boys are grossly underpaid.

Ever since they started National Slavery the pay is pathethic...during my time it was $xx for a recruit..hardly can last half a month, then deduction of a few dollars for FORCED charity!, plus CPF....but food & lodging is free... ha ha ha ha

I agree that there should be no discrimination. The sinkie and Malaysian wage should be reduced immediately.

the Malaysians can pick up the red passport and the discrimination disappears in an instance :D:D:D

Have to agree with GMS. There should not be wage discrimination between nationalities...only between skillsets between individuals. SMRT again....what's wrong with this organisation??? Crisis after crisis. They should just close the whole company down and allow better ones to run our transport network!

i didnt see your post as i normally just skip posts by you. just treat my post as add on can since yours didnt list transport also provided.

You are blind in your emotional ranting about nationalism without real understanding of the economics behind the numbers and the implications of your mindless rhetoric.

You will end up making more Singaporeans losing their jobs with such mindset, instead of protecting Singaporeans from being replaced by foreigners. I am sad that such show of xenophobia has come from people like you.

All bus drivers will enjoy free transport from their work place if they live in Singapore. The eg given by the Malaysian is totally flawed. Singaporean drivers also enjoy free company transport. The Malaysian chose to stay in JB thus they have ride their own bikes.

Just a simple proposal to these Malaysians, would they accept the low pay like the PRC if theu y are given the same terms and accommodation?
I dont think anyone of them will take up that offer

Goh Meng Seng

I don't know what you are hitting at? like a drunkard throwing punches...

The China men when recruited in PRC, have read the Terms & Condition of the contract, whether it is two years, or?? the contract will state the pay, remuneration, incentives etc.. since this is SMRT, I am sure they got accountants, lawyers etc..going through the documnets before they get the china men to sign. These people jolly well know, what they are getting here incuding housing, meal allowances, off days etc.. any increment or even bonuses or even incentives, it is at the discretion of the company, who is not bound to give & I am sure it is not negotiable..it is a goodwill. The Malaysians drivers or even the local ones, I am sure have their terms & conditions too.

For a fire to start, there must be instigators..you can not compare the Malaysians pay with the PRC....so what are you hitting at? are you fighting for the rights of the china men to that, they should get the same pay as the locals or the Malaysians??

These China men are not stupid....they know what they are coming here for...why don't you spend your time, looking into the rights & benefits of the local workers, than dwell on this disparity between the Malaysians & the PRC..

What are you hitting at? and does this drunken boxing, makes you more credible??
