If you guys are into nostalgia, do pay visits to bookshops in small towns malaysia. I bought 2 brand new rotaxs and even a box of hero pens for cheap. Bought also the old super quink ink. Bought too many pens before realized that I have a hoarding problem.
Modern fountain pens are better as they are problem free. The cheaper Pelikan M100 can stay wet though unused for months. The nibs can be unscrewed to clean thoroughly. You can buy spare nibs from Nibmeisters to give you different line variation. There are heaps of ink to enjoy your hobby too. Pretty soon you find ball pens and rollerballs are too plebeian for your tastes.

Ah you got taste - Rotax and BiC were good quality stuff - use them to write answers always pass exams I believed. I used Hero and Great Wall brands, not too bad too.

CONTROL PRICE? Tats against competition law....

What competition? You can only find their
products including refills in only a few authorised resellers and they all seem to be selling things at the same price including refills. Practically if I need a refill, I would not be going to the other end of the island to buy it, authorised resellers being so far apart. It makes no sense for them to have a price war, just sell at the recommended price. Maybe parallel importers have a different price structure but they are also not many. Only one?

Go to Fook Hing. MountBlanc prices not really controlled. But if you go to a MB boutique, they just assume you are a carrot head.

If you intend to buy MB as gifts, I got nothing to say, except it is a recognizable brand with the prominent birdshit logo, so suitably impressive. Because of that, easily faked so there is some brand dilution. You are basically also paying for an overpriced POS made mostly of plastic which they called 'resin' and MB not longer repair their crack plastic for free.

Too bad there isn't any value brand pens that your esteemed customers is able to recognize so it just pure waste of money buying caran, monte, pelikans either. So better 'accidentally' leave the price tags so they would not give their 6 yrs old to play with. In the past, the engraving shops use to stock sheaffer & parkers & cross but this american brands has sunk into oblivion.

If you have disposable cash and want to indulge yourself, try fountain pens. There are plenty to choose from but don't buy any until you visit fountain pen network for 6 months. Its addictive and you end up buying too much which no one in your family appreciates and would sooner throw your $4,000 Namiki Emperor the moment you kick the bucket.

TS, remember at Fook Hing you can bargain. Don't feel shy.

Fukyuman and Jumong thanks very much I'm going there now.

Best pen in the market is Pentel Vicuna. Can but from Bras Basah Popular at $2

Why use pens at all. Today you use pens only for signing documents and filling up forms (those hard copy ones). For doodling, I suggest using pencil. Staedtler is a good pencil brand. Younger users may prefer Faber Castell. For signing million dollar contracts, you cannot spare the use of a good fountain pen, one with a big nib that will show up well in the photograph.

Years ago I heard that Bras Basah's a few of the many stationary and pen shops sells genuine Montblanc pens at a good price compared to the boutiques. Can any bro here help confirm if this is still available today and if possible recommend any good shop? Thank you very much.

Hey Sam,
Sleeping huh?

Right now, this is my favorite pen, made in Japan. It's less than S$10. The metal refill is S$0.80. The pen is extendable.

I have to disagree with all those who like cheap pens, of course i like to spend less on pen, more on other things, but after writing with caran d'ache, i cannot find any cheap pens that write as good. I test pens in store, from cross, parker, waterman, none write as good as caran d'ache.
This is same for all the other cheap pens.

Bonus, i can use very nice color ink if i use fountain pen rather than cheap pens which i no choice.

Look very nice on paper, i even mix a little black into storm to get darker purple.
Again, advantage over over the counter pens.

This is the first time to this shop Jumong. Anyway was there at 5.15pm and at that time I'm always thirsty, so just went in and get what I want not looking at other stuff but they do carry many brands. All MB prices are list price and then they give 10% discount. For bulk it's a little more like 12%. Classic platinum is 530 moonwalker is 500 after discount it's 470 and 450 respectively.

Now kopitiam bah kut teh.

I gave up on fountain pens despite craving to acquire an expensive one as a kid. It dawned on me that no matter how hard I tried or the how good the pen was, my handwriting was totally fucked up. I still admire and look at pens on display but give up when I think of my handwriting.

I have been reading this thread like a kid waiting for his dad to take him to Macs.

i have to compliment Singveld on the way he is always able to furnish full and graphic information including a bucketload of esoteric information on a subject that he has handle on. His peektures always are crystal clear, nicely proportioned and grabs the eye.

Also amazed with many of the brudders here on their handle on the subject and the good memories they share.
