An Australian national, 55-year-old Paul Joseph Smith was sentenced to eighteen months in prison yesterday (2 July).
The 55-year-old who was on trial for four days before being found guilty of molest last Wednesday (27 June).
The incident occurred on 3 September 2011 while Smith was having dinner with three other colleagues at a restaurant on Mohamad Sultan Road, celebrating the end of a project.
While they were saying their goodbyes, the victim, a 38-year-old IT consultant, felt two squeezes on her right breast from Smith.
The victim shouted at Smith and proceeded to retaliate by squeezing his breast hard. Smith proceeded to take a step back, and the victim at this juncture, to no avail, tried to knee Smith.
During the incident Smith was said to have remained calm even when the victim was staring at him throughout.
Smith was a testing manager for a foreign bank and is appealing the sentence.
He could have been sent to prison for a maximum of two years, fined, caned or have been handed out any combination of these punishments.
