LKY Is A Great Man. PAP Is The Best!

Exactly what many people are saying - making the elites very, very rich. But how about the rest?

Read Between The Line

Painful policies include making the poor poorer and the rich richer and housing and private transport totally out of reach for the masses. I must congratulate this Govt for its brilliance.

When he said that he cannot simply please everyone in Sinkiesland, he meant that he had decided to sacrifice some of you for 'good' (his good lah).

With a corporate tax at around 20%, what do you think ? The jobless and poor people don't pay anything, the rich pay lots of money from GST to personal income taxes.

So, who is he going to please ? Obviously, the top 20% that pays the 80% will be in the limelight for his discretion.

As for the poor, he can hardly plan anything them lah. And without any effective unions here, he crushed all the requests for higher pay because of the higher cost of living.

Read between the line my friend, be like water.

dont talk when you dont know the true ground sentiments and no one will know that you are ignorant. open your mouth and you reveal your stupidity

All you're doing is speculating. My prediction is that support for the PAP will be even higher come the next election simply because more Singaporeans will come to their senses and realise what a fantastic job the government has done to keep Singapore at the top of the game.

If you want to see how well Singapore is doing and how the country is admired around the world, read the contents of http://www.sammyboy.com/showthread.php?115528-Proof-that-Singapore-is-tops!

You shouldn't allow emotional issues to cloud your thought process and your judgement. When it comes to tangible yardsticks such as infant mortality rates, poverty rates, suicide rates, unemployment rates, investment, health... anything which can be quantified, Singapore is always up there with the best.

Clap! Clap! Clap! That idiot is thousand of miles away in NZ but want to talk as if he knows everything about S'pore.

In any case, not all the 60% who voted for the PAP are pro-PAP. Quite a sizable voted for them simply out of fear. Many are still not convinced that our votes are secret. And after seeing what LKY had done to those (where even their family members were not spared) who went against him, they would want to pre-empt any of that. If you strip that off the 60%, probably PAP had only about 35% of the people's support. The Presidential Election was a better gauge of the people's sentiments actually with Tony Tan the obvious PAP candidate garnering only 33%.

I agree with you that LeongSam is indeed an idiot. He doesnt know what he talks abt and relies on what he read. He is just regurgitating what was reported bt the pap and SG media. Those who are knowledgeable knows he is ignorant and gulible

Obviously, the PAP must be doing something right. The increasing number of millionaires in Singapore speaks for itself.

That question shows that you are very ignorant and naive.

The number of millionaires means nothing.

The pap is known to prostitute SG to the rich, trying to attract rich people to stay in SG. That's not difficult when the pap gives citizenship freely to them and gives businesses to the rich, crook, corrupt to entice them to come to Singapore. In the process, we have many Indonesian and Chinese criminals bringing their millions to SG. These criminals come and buy up scarce resources in SG. Property prices rose, car COE rose. Is that good for Singapore and Singaporeans?

Is that doing something right?

In the long run, this bad policy will come to haunt SG

I dont speculate because I know the ground and the truth. you are the one who quotes outdated data and doesnt know the present truth. Saying that 60.1% supports the pap shows how badly out of touch you are. If all, you shd use the latest statistics in aug 2011 and say 35% supported the pap. Even then, that's outdated and the pap is shitting in its pants and dare not face another by-election. If one SMC pap were to die, the pap will know the latest truth.

Terry Finance Sir, let me offer you a personal encounter. My company recently advertised for a position looking for a Product Manager with minimun 5 years of experience. We received 200 ++ resumes, out of which 60% were foreigners, from Philippines, China, Malaysia and the rest were from Singaporean.

Out of these 200++ resumes, there were two resumes which stood out. One was a Singaporean guy in his late 30s with 8 years of experience and his expected salary was $6,500 which to me is reasonable and another was a Phillippinoe guy in his late 20s with 6 years of experience and his expected salary was $3,000(negotiable). Let me asked you if i were to present these two resumes to my boss, which one do you think he will have chosen? So as a true blue Singaporean, i trashed the 'foreign talent' resume. I might be what some people call "not professional" but as a Singaporean i feel it is only right that a job should always go to a Singaporean with relavant skills and reasonable expectation FIRST and never to a foreigner.

Singapore is the home i grew up in, the place i was once immensely proud of. I hate to see where we r headed. Sir, i wish you can hear the tiny voices of people who are struggling and for once balance ecomony prosperity with Singaporean well being. A country without happy and loyal citizens is a country in demise.

Finally i would like to clarify that i gladly welcome aunthentic foreign talents that can propel our economy to the next level but for foreigners here to take advantage of our much too liberal immigration policy,NOT A CHANCE.

Eileen Xie: PM, do we have minimum wage like they have in Germany? Do we have as much land and resources as Germany? Have you checked out the proportion of foreigners in Germany vs the proportion here in Singapore? You know how reliable and comfortable their public transport is right? If you put all these together, i think you should be counting your lucky stars that you are still in office now. Singaporeans are a nice tolerant lot you know. So tolerant that it's quite amazing how much you guys managed to push the boundaries without being booted out last May. Learn to be grateful.yar?

Poor small lee, the more the pinoy & prc loved him, the more it show he has forgotten who he is supposedly "servant" of.

LHL seem to have become like Lt. Colonel Nicholson in the film "Bridge over river kwai", obsessed with his bridge(to FTdom) that he turns against the Allied(Sinkees) infavour of his Japanese (PRC?) captors

How can something that isn't united crumble? Singaporeans are as united as the inmates of a maximum security prison.

Posting by Singaporean Juliet Li:

"I feel so ashamed of my pink IC now cos it’s looks so ‘cheap’ to me! Even FT who came to SG less than 5 yrs can get a PR or even citizenship! I am no longer proud to say that I’m a Singaporean unlike 10 – 20 yrs ago. Those who are lucky, manage to migrate to other countries.

What has Singapore become? Where is the old Singapore(1980s – 1990s) gone to?

I notice that during that time, Singapore is much more peaceful than it is now. Even through there are Hong Kongers and Taiwanese in my then neighborhood, but we still do get along well easily without any problem and they respect our culture and are willing to integrate with us.

Life was much more peaceful than. Pinoys are imported here only to be our maids or work in construction firm or companies that need to only hire low wage workers. NOW? They are everywhere!

I feel very sad to see the current affairs now. I can no longer live happily like the past because of one simple reason: I can’t see or hear any of my local born/breed Singaporeans anymore.

Everywhere I go, the moment I step out of the house, all I hear is Pinoy and mainland Chinese accent. I only hear Singlish when I am with my local born and breed friends. Where is my Singapore? Where are my Singlish speaking friends? Where’s my Hokkien/Cantonese/Teochew/Malay and Singaporean Indian speaking friends? Where are they?

I want my old Singapore back!!!

JULIET LI"

Well said, Juliet. I pity Singaporeans. They must vote out the pap to save Singapore.

Tracy Tan is right!!! Crumbling of SG indeed!

From Andrew Loh:

Don’t like the mainstream media? Support the alternative then

On 26 April, my friend, colleague and fellow editor at publichouse.sg, Elaine Ee, wrote this piece in response to the government’s call for a code of conduct for the Internet: “Forget code of ethics, free up mainstream media“.

Dismissing the call, she wrote:

“What we need instead is a new journalistic environment, where the mainstream media are as free to tackle issues and make opinions as new media. Mainstream media needs to be allowed to move with the times, and be released from its public relations role of helping with “nation building” and social cohesion, which should never have been its job in the first place.”

For the longest time, Singaporeans have been calling for a new media landscape. One where, as Elaine said, journalists are free to report the news without fear or favour, without having to put up with unnecessarily cautious editors, or who self-censor because a particular issue is sensitive to the powers-that-be.

The government, on the other hand, is perfectly fine with such a media, which it lauds for its “nation-building” and “social cohesion” effort. Indeed, the government is so awed by how our media has turned out that ministers describe them as “accurate, timely and balanced” – even as Singaporeans continue to view the media with suspicion.

It is, to me, another example of how out of touch the government has become.

Incidentally, here is an article published in the Straits Times on 28 April 2012. It is written by Leslie Fong, the former Chief Editor of the Straits Times: “Traditional media still the best platform for national debate“, picture courtesy of Lee Kin Mun’s Facebook page:

From ATANS1:

"I’m very annoyed that Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said according to a CNA report that“Singapore needs to remain open and to welcome diversity … Mr Teo said Singapore needs to pay extra attention to facilitating the new immigrants who are ready to sink roots here, so that they integrate into society more quickly … urged Singaporeans to do their part to make newcomers feel welcome, and to help them imbibe the values that have made Singapore strong as a society.”

Hey minister and governing PAP, it’s yr problem. Fix it. S’poreans did not ask the government to liberalise immigration."

Crumbling of Singapore indeed:

"Singapore’s public rail system sets an astonishing ‘First World’ record yesterday with three minor train ‘disruptions’ in a single day.

In the morning, trains along the East-West line were delayed due to a combination of ‘bad weather condition’ and ‘train fault.’ At around 1.30pm, trains along the North East Line were delayed for about 10 minutes as a result of ‘signaling fault’.

Just when commuters thought their nightmare has ended, trains along the North-South Line were ‘moving slower’ again according to this announcement by SMRT over its PA system:

“North-bound train service from Woodlands towards Jurong is moving slower due to train fault.”

One irate commuter Solomon Teo posted his unpleasant trip on Facebook:

The light and aircon were on, the train wasn’t crowded(because it was around 5pm. Non peak hour). The whole trip took me 1hr 1min, normally it takes around 45mins.”

The latest spate of train delays and disruptions are not reported by the state media which has swept it under the carpet as if nothing as happened.

There are no immediate comments from both train operators SMRT and SBS Transit on the screw-ups which has led to increasing calls from Singaporeans to nationalize the public railway system before a real disaster happens.

Tracy Tan is visionary, "Crumbling of Singapore" indeed..Her words were used.

"Singapore’s public transport system appears to be crumbling apart as another disruption in service hit the North-East line, barely hours after trains were delayed along the East-West line this morning due to a combination of unforeseen factors such as ‘congestion ahead’, ‘bad weather condition’ and ‘train fault’.

Commuters receive a notification from SBS Transit at around 1.52pm this morning via SMS informing them of the train delay:

“NEL train service in direction of Punggol, from Little India (NE7) to Woodleigh (NE11) stations is currently delayed due to a signalling fault.”
