Crumbling of Singapore?

1. MRT Congestion
2. Housing problem
3. Hospital beds shortage
4. Unemployment of locals
5. Increased suicide rate
6. Unhappiness of citizens
7. Road congestion
8. High ERP rates without easing traffic congestion
9. Bus crowdedness
10. National Service for locals, jobs for foreigners
11. PAP running out of idea how to promote economic growth but having to resort to vices such as gambling.
12. Increased social problems and integration due to high influx of cheap, unskilled and unqualified migrant laboour with their 3rd world social behaviour and lawlessness

Are these signs of the crumbling of Singapore? The pap appears to run out of ideas how to bring SG forward but is taking the obvious easy ways out, bringing long term problems to SG.

Are the recent MRT failures precursors to more failures to come? Will there be forthcoming systemic failures of the Transport system, Medical Institutions, Housing issues, social problems?

The core of PAP Gvot was rotten and that contaminated other parts around it.
The autocratic PAP Govt filled with yes-men ministers enabled it to cover up its massive failures and losses for the past decades.Well done Singapore Citizens!

6. Unhappiness of citizens

60% of the electorate are happy. That's an overwhelming mandate by any measure. Many govts around the world rule with a much smaller margin. Some have to cobble a shaky coalition together in order to gain a majority.

I agree with what you said.

It's so sad that the original pap leaders worked so hard to build up Singapore and the present pap leaders are just self serving. The inner circle of pap leaders are indeed working to enrich themselves and dont care abt the hardship and miseries of the average Singaporeans. They surround themselves with an outer circle group of pap leaders who are yes-men.

This kind of set up spells doom for any country and unless Singaporeans wake up to how SG is governed, future Singaporeans are doomed

The govt has also made it one of the wealthiest nations in the world so they must be doing a lot of things right.

As World Millionaires Multiply, Singapore Holds Its Lead

Overall, global wealth grew fastest in the Asia Pacific region last year. North America came in second
By Venessa Wong

Singapore seems modest by some measures: Median income among working households was only about S$5,700 (about US$4,500) in 2010, according to the Singapore Department of Statistics. Yet in this small island nation of only 5 million, known for extravagant shopping, high-end restaurants, and draconian chewing-gum laws, nearly one in every six households has more than $1 million in assets, making it the densest population of wealthy households in the world, according to a new report by Boston Consulting Group.

As the financial markets improved last year, global wealth grew in nearly every region in the world. The fastest, at 17.1 percent, came in the Asia Pacific region (excluding Japan), followed by North America at 10.2 percent. "Global wealth is at an all-time high," says BCG Senior Partner Monish Kumar.

Saddam Hussein claimed he had >90% mandate. He was not lying. Saddam did have that based on his method of voting.

PAP did have 60% mandate. But PAP's mandate is different from Obama's mandate, Gillard's mandate, Cameron's mandate.

PAP's mandate was achieved with the following:
1. Bankrupting an opposition through kangaroo courts, eg JBJ, FS, TLH, CSJ, etc
2. Jailing of credible and valid political opponents, eg CTP, LHS, etc
3. Control of information to Singaporeans through disinformation and misinformation by state owned MSN
4. State control of trade unions

Is there any pride in PAP getting 60% of the votes despite all the despicable practices? Ant other govt wld have got >90 of the votes if they choose to use illegal practices that the pap uses. Getting only 60% after employing such unjust tactics is a failure to me.

Unlike you, I dont blame the 60% who vote for the pap because they were denied the information and didnt really know who the real pap they voted for. I applaud the 40% Singaporeans who bothered to seek the truth and voted against the pap. this 40% can only grow

Evil cant triumph good and eventually the pap will be voted out and get their just dessert.

Look at the world...Marcos, Saddam, Gaddafi...no evil can hoodwink the people all the time

Singapore is also one of the least corrupt countries in the world. While citizens bitch of minor glitches in backdrop of cleanliness and efficiency, foreigners continue to flock to the country to work and settle because they know what it's like to live in a real shit hole.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog/2011/dec/01/corruption-index-2011-transparency-international

The world's most peaceful countries score the best. In the 2011 CPI, New Zealand is top with a score of 9.5, followed by Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Singapore.

When you said least corrupt..you meant least illegal corruption. If you are discerning, you will realise that the pap uses legislation to get what they want. In your vocabulary...what do you call that? In SG, we call it legal corruption...

so Singaporeans dont agree with the pap that it is least corrupt

Prior to the 2011 election, I would have agreed with you. However, this time round, your argument no longer holds water. Every seat was contested. The opposition opposition candidates were credible or better and they had ample avenues to get their message across.

If the electorate returned Tin Pei Ling instead of Nicole Seah, their decision was not influenced in any way by threats, arm twisting, a biased playing field or what have you. They simply decided that the PAP was a better choice to govern Singapore.

A swallow does not a summer make.

You can't say that the electorate voted TPL in favour of NS..that's not the absolute truth..

The corruption index is compiled by organisation that has no vested interest in the PAP. I'm sure they would be able to see through any smokescreen. The fact remains that an external organisation ranks the Singapore govt highly. If you doubt the credibility of the results, then you have to doubt the rankings of all the other countries too.

A CEO of a TLC sits on the Board of a GLC. The GLC Board approves the tender and price asked for by th GLC. is that legal? Definitely-yes...Is that moral? Definitely-no...Is that corruption? Maybe...

A PAP MP is appointed to and sits on the Board of 10 TLCs/GLCs...is that right?

If more swallows appear, it will confirm the arrival of summer. Let's see what happens in 2016.

Unless there was ballot box stuffing, the result is clear. More people want Miss Tin than they do Miss Seah. If it was the other way round, the ballot box would have revealed this preference.

If it wasn't right, the electorate would not have endorsed the practice by giving the PAP a 60% mandate. They obviously consider it to be acceptable to appoint talented individuals to various boards regardless of their political affiliations.

The problem with Singaporeans is they don't appreciate what a wonderful country they live in and how good the govt actually is compared to many govts around the world.
