When Eunice met Eric, he was already in a relationship with another person.
People around her thought she was a third party, but she waited patiently for four years to be with the man of her dreams. Eunice says:
"I was working part time at a retail store during my school holidays 6 years ago. I was pretty bored with my job and looked for someone to chat with.
"A guy sporting a centre parting hairstyle caught my eye. He was clad in his ugly uniform and was engrossed in his work.
"He casually turned sideways and gave me a meek smile before shifting his attention to his work again. Somehow, his smile captivated me and I knew I had to talk to him.
"I went over, gave a pat on his shoulders and began a little conversation with him. Throughout the small talk, he was just replying me with one or two word answers.
"I looked at his hands, he had a ring on his ring finger. God, he was attached, no wonder he looked so uneasy. I took the hint and walked back to my workstation.
"Soon, from a hi-bye acquaintance, we became friends. He began to walk to my workstation more often, wanting to talk to me.
"One day, he bought drinks for me on the pretext of getting my number. Since I was leaving in one week's time, I obliged.
"Initially we messaged each other but soon we began chatting on the phone. I felt that I was waiting for his calls and SMSes everyday.
"But it was tough for us to meet up frequently because he was attached. We got together after a while but it drove me crazy that he was somebody else's and I had to compromise my time just for him.
"I cried and thought through my sleepless nights and realised that this was not going to work out. After all, I am just somebody's spare tyre.
"So we broke off and went our separate ways. I even had to erase that particular 3 months' memories from my mind. It was no easy task.
"After a while, I got into a new relationship, but it didn't work out and I was constantly thinking of Eric.
"I don't know if it was fate that he sent me a message on Friendster asking me how I have been.
"We eventually chatted online and realised that both of our relationships were on the rocks and the most important thing was that we still missed each other dearly.
"We finally met up after 4 years of separation. We went out a couple of times after our apparent first date.
"After a while, there was still no news of our impending relationship. I was still a spare tyre after all. I didn't want to go through that rough patch again.
"I didn't know how to deal with it, so I occupied myself with studies.
"Finally one fine day, he sent me an SMS saying that he really wants to be with me and he would try his best to get his past relationship done with.
"After all, he was mistreated from my point of view. He explained continuously to me that I was not a third party and he already had plans to break off his previous relationship before he fell in love with me.
"Our separation lasted 4 long years but at the end of the day, we got back together and we love and deserve each other.
"We were officially together on 8th Feb 2008. I can't forget the way he popped the question.
"Many people thought that I was a third party but Eric always emphasised that happiness lies in our hands and we have to strive for it before we lose it for good.
"He proposed to me a year later on the same date, 08-02-09 and I accepted his proposal. And in 2010, we are preparing for our upcoming solemnisation which falls on 8th April.
"In 2 months' time, he is legally mine and yes I can't wait to be a Mrs."
