From another individual:
It goes without saying that TS has all the credentials for the job. It is also evident that he is a good person, with an active conscience. He loves the country and cares for the man in the street. He is known to have supported local entrepreneurs. But what he appears to be lacking in is “fire in the belly, and steel in the nerve” that LKY talked about as essentials in leaders. In my work experience with TS, he pushes for what he believes in but only to a point. He has, what I would consider last mile inertia. He becomes or tends to become risk adverse. There is a tendency to avoid what is unpleasant. This combined with his loyalty to LHL presents an undesirable combination. When it comes to local politics or real politics, I feel he could have used his leverage to push the boundaries more. Perhaps he does, within the system. We may not see, or have not seen it.
A separate but related point is that, regardless of the merit or demerits of his candidacy, the ruling party’s campaign strategy lacks sophistication. The party machinery led by pseudo tacticians should be less blatant in trying to pull wool over our eyes by orchestrating every step. From what has happened so far, the synchronous TS’s and GG’s statements, it looks like GG’s candidacy is an intrinsic part of TS’s campaign. It may appear that GG was asked to enter the fray, even if only to lose, to show a desire for contest, which appears to be the current mantra. This is not necessary, and seems to make TS look less authentic.
