PE2023: George Goh Produces The Most Cringe-Worthy Campaign Video Ever?​

He may be the favourite to win the presidential election, but George Goh Ching Wah is certainly the favourite to win top prize for the most cringe-worthy campaign video ever.
The presidential hopeful released a video last Thursday (22 Jun) of himself being interviewed by familiar TV host Belinda Lee, which has raised many giggles for the overly-dramatic manner which both Goh and Lee come across.
Titled “Up Close & Personal with George Goh”, the interview essentially rehashes the story of George Goh’s rags-to-riches story – which has been repeated too often to the point of becoming numbing by his media team since since he applied to contest in PE2023.

What’s caught the attention of netizens here is that barely ONE minute into the interview, both George Goh and his host appear to be tearing up, as he talks about his younger days.
The teary-eyed looks and constant gushing over George Goh’s “achievements” by Lee carries on throughout the rest of the 11-minute video.
While some have called the video heart-warming, many have slammed it for looking fake, and staged to manipulate the emotions of audiences.

This is the first time a sane politician wannabe (i.e someone who isn’t of the Yishun siao lang genre) has been criticised for over-the-top theatrics.
The “crying game” criticism has mostly been reserved for PAP MPs and ministers.
Most recently, Jurong GRC MP Shawn Huang received thorough condemnation for tearing up in parliament during the Budget 2022 Debate while wishing his daughter a happy birthday.
