Singapore's Shameful Past..Operation Thunderstorm.. the pushing of Refugees back into the sea

In 1975, North Vietnam invaded the south and captured Saigon, reuniting the country under communist rule. It spelt the end of the Vietnam War, but it also meant hundreds of thousands of South Vietnamese fled their homeland as refugees, many of them ventured desperately southwards by sea...

vietnamese-boat-people.jpg

When the refugess reached Singapore, they were intercepted, given food and fuel and told to leave, even if the boats were not sea-worthy. How many died at the hands of the RSN will never be known....

only those picked up by commercial vessels were given refuge at Sembawang’s Hawkins Road Vietnamese Refugee Camp....

And by the way, some of the boats which were in better condition were seized by the navy and painted in the navy colours and became part of the fleet. what a joke. Anyway this sad part of our history, of how we were so cruel to our fellow human beings will never be taught in schools or mentioned in public." (by "Jo" 6 july 2011)

Heard of old fart story? It was said he has to switch his daily travel route to work suddenly for fear of arse-sinnation on him. Old fart think he is emperor, or has many enemies, but must remind him he is a civil servant and is dispensible.

Ah yes, last chance kiss from girlfriend before boarding the bus for SAFTI.

We relied on Green Bus No 175 to get to SAFTI.....

This pic was taken along Bukit Timah Road, outside ChunTin Road, next to the Beauty World and Chung Khiaw Bank across the canal. Bus stops at Rex theatre and 7th mile village were always full of NS men ....

Hidden History - 1968 - Fruit pickers in SAFTI training area Killed

..

..
It was in the morning of a fine day in July 1968 when more than 10 people including old people in their 60s went out on an outing.

They lived in the village of Kampung Bereh and were happily picking rambutans inside the training area of SAFTI, something which was commonly done by groups up to 20.

Suddenly, explosions started to rain down on them..... When it was over, 4 were dead and 9 injured, some very seriously.

They had apparently entered the live-firing-area without the knowledge of the Army, lured by the fruits.....

Up to this day, people still venture into the live-firing-areas just to get free fruits..... maybe you are one?

Lee Phui Yen, or The Pink Panther as he was known to everyone, was a legendary undercover officer. Together with his partner AngMoKia (William Porter), they penetrated heroin traffficking rings and brought numerous traffickers to justice by posing as drug buyers. Pink Panther had the face of a crook, and it was simply impossible not to sell drugs to him if you were a drug trafficker.

Somewhere along the line, the Pink Panther lost his sense of direction. Right and wrong became blurred to him. He joined a syndicate of shop lifters and terrorised all the shopping centres. Each time they hit, they would get away with thousands. He was caught and was jailed. On his release, he became a human trafficker... a "snakehead" who smuggled illegal immigrants to the West. Poor guy, I wonder what he is doing now.....

Sounds like a script from a movie. Wonder why Mediacropse didn't pick up on this. In USA, this would have made into a movie!

To be honest, RSN did the right thing, what would happen if these people end up on singapore shores? they would have to be fed and clothe at the Peoples expense. Look at what all these boat people are doing to europe and australia? they come bcos they know can get in, Everyone has problems, but they should not bring their problems upon others. However PAP has made amends to this situation by opening the doors to Foreign Trash,, more of them are here than ever before,

Nobody died at the hands of RSN. If anybody died, they died by their own cause and circumstance and consequence. Nothing to do with Singapore or RSN. RSN was just doing its duty to keep unauthorised foreigners out. What do you expect? Every country deciding to go to war you accept their refugees. Do you really want that?

sg's climate is so fecking hot and humid no refugee needs any clothes. what's the difference between taking in thousands then versus taking in millions now? if old man had any foresight then, he would have kept them and avoid having to import millions now. many of these refugees who end up in the sf bay area went on to become tech workers, business people, doctors, entrepreneurs, land owners, real estate tycoons, etc.
