IMHO, it's long overdue. The 2 old men have outlived their usefulness. Only in Singapore do one have 2 ex-PMs in the Cabinet, holding the PM's hands & "mentoring" him. It makes a mockery of the title of "<B>Prime</B> Minister" In fact, the positions of SM & MM are truely "uniquely Singapore", created by the Singapore Government.
Their remarks during the election campaign showed how much their styles are outdated to the electorate, both young and old, using threats against the electorate and questioning their opponents' credentials, among other things & caused much anger & resentment against the PAP.
