SINGAPORE, March 13 (Reuters) – Myanmar’s Prime Minister Thein Sein will visit Singapore and Indonesia next week, just after regional group ASEAN urged its military junta to be inclusive in elections and to free political prisoners.
Thein Sein’s itinerary has not been made public, but Singapore’s Botanic Gardens said it would host an “Orchid Naming Ceremony” for Thein Sein on Wednesday, as part of his official visit to Singapore and Indonesia, a spokeswoman told Reuters. Myanmar ruling junta’s newspaper New Light of Myanmar reported on Friday that Thein Sein, the number four in its hierarchy, would visit the two countries “in the near future”.

If my neighbour in the hypothetical anarcho-capitalist society wanted to impose death penalty on me, he would have no legitimacy because there are no universal laws or moral code in the kinda anarcho-capitalist society that a pacifist like me would choose to live in. Legitimacy is important because you need legitimacy to get people to do the things you want them to. As it stands, legitimacy is determined by a quinquennial political X-Factor where one group of useless sycophants with more gerrymandered seats than other groups of useless sycophants gets to dictate on where we live and how we live for five years without any opposition whatsoever. Capitalism = means of production owned by private individuals and operated for private profit. Whether you have property rights and security or not doesn't diminish the fact there is no public sector in an anarcho-capitalism, only private individuals pursuing their own ends.

Even the most uneducated villager in Laos or Cambodia knows that smuggling a certain quantity of drugs into Singapore carries the death penalty. YVK is not the first society underdog to be given the death penalty for drug smuggling. Others, like him, knew of the potential outcome, and have paid their price (or more accurately, their families have paid the price; the drug mules had it coming). You can see the statistics over the years.

The liberal agenda is not so much YVK per se but the mandatory death penalty legislation. They value human life too, even if the criminal himself has shown contempt for his own, so there is also an element of compassion. Even for those who don't think YVK is worth saving, at least think about whether the MDP is right.
