Another motorist badly injured in Ipoh after man on motorcycle fired six shots at him on Wednesday night
GEORGE TOWN: In yet another case of street shooting in the country, a 37-year-old man was shot dead at a traffic intersection along Jalan Anson here today.
Veerappan Kanapathi was found dead in the driver’s seat of a black BMW car, which had a Kuala Lumpur registration number, in the 11.50 am incident, said North East District Police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng.
He said one of two men on a motorcycle had shot Veerappan, who was from Ayer Itam, in the neck and head.
Police found 14 spent 9mm bullets beside the driver’s seat, he added.
Gan said Veerappan had three criminal records under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
He said the police were looking for eye-witnesses and nearby premises which CCTV to identify the assailants.
IN IPOH, one of two men on a motorcycle fired six shots and badly injured a motorist in Chemor near here Wednesday night, police said today.
Ipoh Police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said the 29-year-old motorist was driving his Hyundai Atos car with two passengers, believed to be family members, in Taman Klebang Putra when he was shot at 11.15 pm.
“The two men on the motorcycle, wearing full-faced helmets, came close to the car and one of them fired six shots,” he told reporters after attending an Aidilfitri open house at the Pekan Baru Police Station, here.
Sum said police found six spent bullets at the scene of the incident.
He said the unconscious motorist was receiving treatment in hospital.
One of the passengers in the car had lodged a police report on the incident, he added.
