SINGAPORE - Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts Yaacob Ibrahim has urged new citizens to uphold Singaporean values of multiracialism and meritocracy.
He also said new Singaporeans should play a part in contributing to the nation by being actively involved in the community.
The minister was speaking at the National Citizenshop Ceremony at Toa Payoh HDB Hub on Sunday morning, where 133 new citizens received their citizenship certificates.
They were among about 3,000 new citizens who affirmed their commitment to Singapore in ceremonies at various constituencies over the weekend.
Dr Yaacob expressed confidence that the new citizens will embrace these values and help enlarge the common spaces that help to bind the people.
He said: 'Let us work together, as Singaporeans, for a better future for ourselves and our future generations and to make Singapore our best home.'
