New citizens should uphold S'porean values: Yaacob

SINGAPORE - Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts Yaacob Ibrahim has urged new citizens to uphold Singaporean values of multiracialism and meritocracy.

He also said new Singaporeans should play a part in contributing to the nation by being actively involved in the community.

The minister was speaking at the National Citizenshop Ceremony at Toa Payoh HDB Hub on Sunday morning, where 133 new citizens received their citizenship certificates.

They were among about 3,000 new citizens who affirmed their commitment to Singapore in ceremonies at various constituencies over the weekend.

Dr Yaacob expressed confidence that the new citizens will embrace these values and help enlarge the common spaces that help to bind the people.

He said: 'Let us work together, as Singaporeans, for a better future for ourselves and our future generations and to make Singapore our best home.'

It's good thing that Yaacob clarified that his children are holding dual citizenship. Children of married couple with different nationality are allowed to hold dual citizenship until when huh?

Can one of Singaporean couple take up foreign citizenship somewhere and their children apply to hold dual citizenship before the age limit like Yaacob's children?


Yaacob Ibrahim clarifies Wikileaks report on children's citizenship

SINGAPORE: Minister-in-Charge for Muslim Affairs Yaacob Ibrahim has clarified the citizenship status of his children following the release by Wikileaks of a cable reportedly listing the biographies of Malay Muslim MPs in Singapore.

The report, which stated that Dr Yaacob's two children are American citizens, has attracted a flurry of comments online.

In a statement through his press secretary, Dr Yaacob said the status of his wife as an American citizen by birth confers dual citizenship to their two children until the age of 18.

His son and daughter are Singapore citizens and attend national schools.

The statement said that Dr Yaacob's son, now 16, will serve National Service, just as he did.

It added that Dr Yaacob's family regrets that there are some who consider innocent children to be fair game in political attacks, but trusts that most Singaporeans will continue to cherish the value of respecting a family's privacy.

Dr Yaacob is also Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts.

For all their vaunted claims of possessing the "satellite vision" to see 30-50 years into the future, the Despot and his PAP thugs were not clever enough to forsee the invention of the Internet and how it has empowered the young and each and every computer-literate Singaporean.

What is happening now to Yaacob is no different from what this Despot and his PAP thugs inflicted on the innocent wives and children of his political opponents.

I am glad that the Despot is still alive to see his ability to control Singaporeans through bullying and fear by using his ISD, IRAS, Judicial Prostitutes in his Kangaroo Courts and Prostitute Press unravelling right before his very eyes as ordinary Singaporeans inflicts upon this Despot and his PAP thugs that which they have inflicted not only on their political opponents but on their innocent wives and children.
