War is a serious issue & can only be used as a last resort to defend one's Homeland. It's ok right now to discuss or even make jokes of it, while in the comfort of our owned homes, with food provided on the table, jobs, career, family, friends & loved ones beside us in our relative peace now.
However. should war happens, then it is TOTALLY a different life, which many whom did not serve NS or participate in our Nation's Total Defence Strategy, they will be akin to a deer caught in the middle of railroad track with the lighted up train speeding towards it - unprepared.
Let's look at a HYPOTHETICAL situation of war that confronts Singapore, coming from the eastern & southern seas. What would it be like?
1. When war is officially declared, often last minute, some especially the rich & the aged, kids & womenfolk will attempt to flee to the North. However, in such a time, only those with gold will be able to escape the crowded lanes, or on flimsy boats that will capsize easily. Currencies will not be trusted. Not many will be able to flee & worse - with their precious wealth paid to escape, they will have nothing left to SURVIVE in the North. This is a REALITY, not fiction, as it happened to refugees worldwide in the face of modern war.
2. Those who managed to flee will thus be likely close kins, or even just themselves, meaning abandoning family, relatives, friends & loved ones as they will not have enough gold to pay for all, so too the rich for even cherished employees. MANY will be left behind. Equally, other nations will not be welcoming to refugees, as they will become a liability to its economy & social compact, & worse- may be treated as a traitorous 5th column.
3. Singapore will be able to withstand a SIEGE for at the least 6mths/ 180days, with our stockpile & fund reserves to purchase more food & supplies. The hypothetical enemy knows this, & will await for the 181st day to strike. They are not morons whom will wipe out every structure & then have to spend TRILLIONS to rebuild. 30% damage is only acceptable. Thus missile strikes from naval bombardment will be limited from day1 to day 181, On the 181st day, troops instead will be used to capture the country, driving inhabitants into sheep-like pens as captives, & start to administer to a captured country as happened like how Hong Kong was subjugated.
4. Thus Singapore DO have much time to seek for help. As Singapore is a global port whereby all points of the compass meets, MANY other nations will suffer from trade loss should a siege happen in Singapore, often by a naval blockade. They will be the voices to demand the siege be lifted or trade sanctions will destroy the enemies from sustaining the war on Singapore. So, we will not be alone.
5. Faced with such options, each citizen will have no where to go, except to stand your ground & fight. At least fighting back, one will have a chance to live & win. But to run away - there will be no life, if alive, only guilt till death. Often, the enemy knows that none wants war, even themselves, but would USE THE FEAR OF WAR to scare & frighten others. It is only when one is PREPARED to defend Peace, will the enemy think twice on war.
So, I welcome all to join me & stay. We are in this together. However, you will have to be TRAINED to join my team, coz, if you are not trained, you will likely endanger yourself & fellow team members. If I have to sacrifice for you, I would, based upon your valor to volunteer, but if instead I live & you perish, I would not be able to live with the guilt for life, for not ensuring that you are properly trained for war.....
