Then it is easy for the AG (or rather the CJ) to save face. AG appeals, case goes before panel of judges which includes CJ (ex-AG). The rest is history. No harm done and Siva made to look like a fool.

You are right, this is beyond CPIB and Teng. In fact it will go beyond AGC and a whole host of concerns to address. I note that Siva was very careful and I was impressed. Also noteworthy is that Siva made it very clear that he did not find NBG innocent but rather the nonsense of one individual was enough not to place an iota of credibility to reach a guilty verdict.

1) The entire Chapter 241, Prevention of Corruption Act has to go back to the drawing boards if they do not appeal. They cannot afford defence councels to use this recent case to their advantage. Its an unusual piece of legislation on a number of issues such as credibility of witnesses, onus to prove otherwise lies with the defence, etc

2) If they do not act against AGC, it sends the wrong message to future potential witness who offered the bribe. I am sure CPIB or AGC will not let this lady walk free. Their biggest issues is the quality of CPIB investigations. To your point which I too thought was fundamental and was surprised that they did not go thru their materials with a fine tooth comb.

3) I am sure AGC and PMO will need to review their quality of CPIB investigation. A deep dive is necessary.

Once there was a case of this nature critisised by the judge but not specially highlighted by media. Imaging how those innocent who are implicated due to unsustaintiated allegation and have no money to engage lawyers have been tortured mentally simply because the bureau is high up with investigators like Teng.
