He even cries at the funeral

Mr Ow Yong Thian Soo, a senior partner who heads Lee & Lee's real estate and property developments. He spoke of how Mrs Lee hired him as her articled clerk, which made him eligible to take law courses.

Ow Yong Thian Soo, a partner at Lee & Lee, said: "Mrs Lee advised me to consider taking law as a career, and she very kindly offered to take me in as an articled clerk. She gave me time off to attend the lectures and tutorials at the University of Singapore. And she also paid for my......university and tuition fees."

The maternal instinct in Mrs Lee was evident even during official functions.

When a lawyer cries, you can be sure there's something fishy behind the tears. A partner from L&L somemore.

Every one needs a pet mah. Even Gecko. Some people have pet birds, some pet dogs, others pet humans.

but she was exceptionally nice to him le, paid for his school fees bla bla bla, . . . .

But look at his face, does he not look like a beagle? Anyway, all the school fees and bills are tax deductible from her law firm, u think she actually took money out of her own pocket? LOL.

You people are beasts.

Anyone who worked as an associate in L&L during the 90s will sing praises about her. She rescued many an unfortunate junior from long hours in the office by chasing them home at 5 p.m. I'm not surprised at how much she is loved by the current L&L cohort. Of course many will also have heard about how stringent she was with wasting letterheads - this from the 70s juniors.

I have noticed alot of PAP hatred and I have to say that ur sarcasm is directed at the wrong person. Thanks for the generalization and obvious jealousy.

Firstly, that so called evil lawyer you are talking about is my dad and to me he's the best dad on the planet. That is the worst photo of him I have ever seen and I can't believe who picked that photo.

The news paper article failed to mention my dad was very poor growing up and couldn't even afford toothpaste with his 7 siblings. At 17 he applied to be a CLERK at Lee and Lee. He worked there many years and was so devoted it moved Mrs Lee. She then offered to pay for his law school. He studied for 7 years part time while working as a clerk at the same time. When I was growing up, my dad was a young lawyer handling big assignments. The trade off was I almost never saw him. He worked 6 days a week from 9am - 12 midnight. When he got home, he would still be struggling with finishing up some law assignments.

But guess what. My dad met my mum overseas and had to understand a person of a totally different culture and he never seemed to inherit the hate and lack of tolerance Singaporeans have for each other and for other people.

Also, to make it clear his KIDS did not inherit special privileges for any given reason. I am a nurse in Australia, I moved there at age 18, and am absolute hippy backpacker with tattoos and red hair and an Australian metal musician for a boyfriend. I drive a beatup 86 hyundai lantra, and I live in a rickety house in Brunswick full of hippies and a colony of possums on our roof. My dad is proud of me no matter what choices I make. My sister is a jewellery designer, my brother is going to study science in Melbourne sometime. We are not an elitist family. While I understand your frustration with SINGAPORE in general since I am having a great life with minimum wage in Australia, I don't have to work too hard and life is good. Yes, Singapore is a HARD environment. But take your stupid flaming innocent people out of this. I believe I am saying it in a very nice way instead of any of you who would be hopping mad at someone calling your father a dog.

Look you conceited twit, we are not obviously jealous of you, your father, or any other such pathetic person. We hate Lee/Kwa and the PAP. and anything related or affiiliated with them.

Ok, Let me see if I got this right. Your father worked at Lee and Lee, impressed Gecko, and she paid for his law education. But he had to do it part time, not like an NS deferment basis, because god forbid Gecko should give him a leave of absence for his studies. Than after he completed his legal studies, he worked like a coolie, an indentured servant in excess of 15 hours a day for 6 day week. He was such a fantastic father even though he neglected his family, did not have the time to spend with his children. Is that about right?

But guess what. My dad met my mum overseas and had to understand a person of a totally different culture and he never seemed to inherit the hate and lack of tolerance Singaporeans have for each other and for other people.

Let me explain something to you. There is a lot of hatred for the Lee and Kwas and the PAP in SIngapore. And anyone allied or associated with them. If Lee Kuan Yew was not the PM of Singapore, Lee and Lee would be a law firm run by a Cambridge educated Hakka chinese who could not speak a word of hokkien, mandarin or any main chinese dialects. At best, they would have been a small boutique law firm, or bought out after a while. Instead, by corrupt means and conflict of interest, Lee and Lee are awarded HDB conveyancing contracts in the hundreds of thousands totalling $billions of dollars, not to mention juicy govt. legal work. In other words, Gecko became very rich thanks to her husband's position of influence. The money That she used to pay for your father's education was therefore corruptly obtained. U are telling me that a smart person like your father never sat down and ask himself why with hundreds of law firms in Singapore, Lee and Lee would corner 90% of the HDB flat conveyancing market? Even a retard a can smell a rat. Fact is, your father sold his soul for money from Gecko.

Good for you that his money now enables you to leave a nice life in Australia. Unfortunately, people living in Singapore are not so lucky, and have to put up with gecko's and her husband's legacy. You and your family benefitted from your father's relationship with gecko, got your PR and Citizenships in Australia, and u dare to come here and say you did not inherit any special privileges? U are telling me that living in Australia as opposed to this shit hole is not a privelege? Many singaporeans stuck here and unable to leave will tell you that u are immensely priveleged.

As far as I am concerned, and most singaporeans here, anyone employed by Lee and Lee is an evil lawyer, and worthy of any name we wish to call them. The fact that your father moved his family to Australia ( or enabled them to get aussie passports), and decide that its a better place than singapore is a glaring condemnation of what is wrong with Singapore thanks to the Lees. But wait, I don't hear him speaking out about it, do you?

As I said before, I am being very generous of your derogative remarks obviously trying to stir up some hate. Very graciously I will explain because people make all sorts of stupid assumptions. Firstly, I'm not going to bother explaining to you about my dad being neglectful. I think it's a rather spiteful comment and obviously, I know better or I wouldn't be sticking up for him.

Jealousy, Yes! Whether you like it or not I am saying that alot of people are envious of money and power and I hear Singaporeans pointing fingers at the rich all the time. I truly believe that in capitalist countries like Singapore, people Worked hard to get where they are. Either that or they inherited it. Why fault them? Look at Richard Branson. Didn't he work very hard when he was young? Trust me, I do not like capitalism either. I am just pointing out some facts. Why are some people born poor?

I said my mum is not Singaporean. What else would you make of it? I BOUGHT my pr and a good life is Australia? No, I had to work for it too by proving I had a skilled profession to even apply to the country at age 18! Why on earth would a Singaporean think Australia is a good life? I think not, I think a rare few like me love it. Would you be used to yuts and farmland and camping alot? I love my life in Australia because I am a generally laid back nature lover and I enjoy slow days smoking at cafes. So please, don't accuse me of it from the money perspective I escaped Singapore. Many people are fond of the city life in Singapore and love their fast paced work. True story, Singaporean/Aussie girl I know chose Singapore.

Everything I own I worked for on my own in Aussie. A cheap car that breaks down all the time. Paying my own rent. When I was studying in Melbourne I worked too. Alot of Singaporeans live with their parents till they're marriage age, dude, like most Aussies I make it on my own I'm out the door at 18 and if I want to stay I pay my parents rent.

I said Singapore is not a pleasant place because its competitive. Yet! Do you ever want to become Socialist like Australia? Why is it Singaporeans living in Australia tell me its too "slow paced" they want to go home? (But personally I don't) We don't want a country with shops that close at 5pm? What a "backward" country they say (which is a pure generalization Australia is not). Why? Who created this society? When the government mistreated the Australian nurses last year 9000 of us went on strike. Would Singapore do that? We won the strike and they didn't do the stupid thing they wanted to do of firing Div 1 nurses and hiring unskilled health professionals to take their place (what a disaster!). And so why does Singapore keep blaming the government for what its own society and culture created?

Hey Sis

Don't take this personally. The venom is not meant for your father but for the Lee family for what they did to others. You are lucky to see your father daily albeit late in the day. This vindictive bastard incarcerated a man for 32 years, longest political prisoner in modern history. While his wife was nurturing your father's budding career, his former associates were detained without trial for decades. I know of one chap whose father was banished to Malaysia and he was raised by his mother singlehandedly because of the old man. He was not the only who did not see their father.

By the way, its a criminal offence to go on strike in Singapore. If you not believe me, give your father a call.

When the MRT was going to be launched, couple of the newly trained drivers decided to go on strike as they felt their pay was too low. Someone tipped off the authorities and the ring leaders were swiftly arrested and thrown into CID lock-up. The strike did not even begin. This is not Australia. This is Singapore. Your father was nutured by the tyrant's wife.

Here is a bit of advice. Go back to your possum filled Australian house, live with your redheaded boyfriend and don't tell a soul that as a child your family income came from conveyancing fees that was many times more that it is in Australia for public housing leased for 99 years. Ever heard of coveyancing fees for public housing and that only one firm had it. Its no different to the illgotten gains that standover guys from the Carlton Crew make in Melbourne.

Please don't preach us anything if you do not know the history of the firm that your father is partner of or where your childhood pocket money came from. If you knew, believe me, you would be very very quiet. And the Carlton Crew were always nice to their families. If you have no idea about Carlton Crew, ask that boyfriend of yours.

Forumer voidable do not seem to understand that corruptions in any form transcend thru generations and any gains obtained or received, knowingly or unknowingly, attracts a great deal of bad karma and retribution.

The word to be noted here is : knowingly or unknowingly.
