<!--close .kicker, if any-->[h=1]BTO purchase tough for divorcees[/h]
<!--start of story text--><!--start of story text-->AS A divorced mother of a young child, I have waited for three years to apply for a subsidised flat after my divorce was finalised.
So when I was invited to select a flat after my Build-to-Order application last November, I was elated.
But my joy turned to dismay when I read the guidelines, which required a single parent with joint custody of the child to include a consent letter from the former spouse in the application. How would any former spouse be willing to provide such a letter?
I also found out that I had to pay a resale levy of $26,000 because I had enjoyed a grant from the Government for my first flat, which was bought while I was married. As a single parent, how would I be able to stump out the cash, especially when the grant was Central Provident Fund-linked?
The rules also stated that I could apply for a flat with my children only within five years of the divorce. How can I save up such a significant sum of money within the timeline? Should there be a deadline anyway on how quickly a divorcee can recover financially?
