Why do people like to wear Rolex?

Whether the water rolls off or stays is due to surface tension on the watch face. If you spray some water repellent, water will roll off. If you clean it with alcohol or detergent, the water will stay. So thaty's a test of Rolex?

It is genuine alright. The water will stay. If it rolls off, it is a fake. Yes, when brand new there is a 3D hologram sticker.

What Real Millionaires Do

I'm done reading my copy of Stop Acting Rich: ...And Start Living Like A Real Millionaire
ir
and I'll be posting a bit on it here and there. But for now I wanted to share a general overview of the book's findings regarding what real millionaires do:
Dr. Stanley’s research and the national survey carried out on his behalf by University of Georgia Survey Research Institute rips the lid off just about every assumption we have about who the really rich are (and aren’t), what they do (and don’t do) and what they buy (and don’t buy).
For example:

  • The #1 most popular make of car among millionaires is Toyota--not BMW or Mercedes
  • Real millionaires pay about $16 (tip included) for a haircut at a traditional barbershop
  • Nearly 4 in 10 millionaires surveyed buy wine that costs around $10
  • There are currently more than 350,000 millionaire educators (working or retired teachers or professors)--a profession that is far better at transforming income into true wealth than doctors or lawyers
  • Only 5.7 percent of all millionaires surveyed nationally paid $1,000 or more for their most recently acquired suit
  • Sixty-four percent of all real millionaires have never owned a second house – not even a rustic log cabin in the woods
  • The proportion of Americans who owned boats in 2006 exceeded the proportion who left an estate of $1 million or more in 2007 by a ratio of nearly 5 to 1
  • In the U.S., there are nearly three times more millionaires living in homes that have a market value of under $300,000 than there are living in homes valued at $1 million or more
  • The number one preferred brand of shoes worn by millionaire women is Nine West and their favorite clothing store is Ann Taylor--with the Gap and Costco not far behind
  • Most real millionaires eschew Rolex, Omega and Tag Heuer timepieces in favor of Seiko watches
  • Those who give away larger portions of their income to charitable causes end up accumulating more wealth.

If you are happy with the above, so be it

No, I want to be educated. That is a physics phenomenon. How come it is like unque to Rolex?

This is because most genuine Rolex use sapphire crystal, one of the properties of sapphire crystal is if you put a drop of water on the surface, the crystal will leave the water in a nice small little ball. Fake Rolex on the other hand uses glass and the water will rolls off.

But of course if counterfeiters start using sapphire crystal, then this test is meaningless. However, there are many other means of checking if the Rolex is fake or genuine.

Tks bro. There's a product called Rainex that car owners use on their windscreens to repel rain water. It works becasue it causes th raiwater to form into balls and roll off the sides. Now if the fakers use Rainex on glass instead of crystal, how are you going to tell if it is still a real McCoy or a fake?

If your Rolex is accepted at Tong Building service centre for cleaning and servicing, it's genuine.

Wow, interesting, hope they don't use Rainex yet. Most counterfeiters sells fake Rolex as fake Rolex. Which is why there is big difference in workmanship since quality and exact replication is not expected. This difference allow people to determine if the Rolex is genuine or fake.

If they want to sell fake Rolex as genuine Rolex, this is where consumers have to be very careful because they may want to use Rainex on glass to fool people. So far, counterfeiters have never tried to sell fake Rolex as genuine because they know their fake Rolex can be easily spotted and they are there to make a quick buck by capitalizing on Rolex's name and not to cheat people.

Of course, the worry is a crooked sales person in a retail watch shop may want to pass off a fake as genuine. For this reason, it is best to buy from authorised dealer only.

Tks again bro. Yr replies have been highly educational. I agree with you that people who sell fake Rolex actually will tell you they are fake.

Well said. You can get fake Rolex in Thai pasar malam, but they tell you it's fake and sell it at fake price. The worry is some decent looking shopping centre shops passing off fake as real and charge real price.

Cleaning and polishing is about S$100. Overhaul should be about S$400.
