mostly decomposing vege such as broccoli, cabbage, mushroom will cause the foul odor. if shit gets stuck in rectum, gas from stomach has no place to go but up to throat and mouth as burp or down to rectum and out the anus as fart. without shit in rectum, gas is tolerable. but with shit, gas has to wrap around shit and force its way out the tube carrying microscopic fecal matter with it. it's the airborne microbe and or bacterial-chemical compound in vapor form that stinks.
