Why can't our education system produce such talents?

If the selection for Nobel prize are so arbitrary as you’ve mentioned, just as so PISA and TIMMS are so arbitrarily and rigorously conducted. It’s surprising we haven’t got any Nobel prize :rolleyes::rolleyes:

?

Selection of ANY prize, medal or award is arbitrary, if they use the same methodology as Nobel Prizes.

You have a bunch of judges, selected arbitrarily. They FEEL that some work deserves an award. And ergo, they hand out an award:cool:

Somebody mentioned Obama. I think that should ring a bell. Tells you why Nobel Prize or any other award is entirely subjective?

PISA/TIMSS are merely tests for schoolchildren. Hard to take them seriously.

There lies the difference, Nobel prizes for science have deep impact on the advancement for science.

structure of DNA by Watson & Crick, relativity & special relativity by Einstein, the discovery of GFP by Osamu et. al. There’s great impact on the humanity, notwithstanding the subsequent works of other scientists.

Einstein got no prize for relativity.

His award was for photoelectric effect.

There you go.

It's all arbitrary.

There's nothing to say XYZ is better or more deserving of a prize than PQR or JKL.

Talents are born, not made. That's why we import them. Not born a talent, you are doom to rely on PAP handouts. Doom to vote PAP with a smile.

Einstein got no prize for relativity.

I stand corrected for that, it doesn’t negate the other works that won Nobel science prize, which had impacted the advancement of science.

That you can’t deny.

Peace prizes are jokes alright, even Hitler was Man of the Year for Time Magazine. What gives?

Let’s focus on the scientific prizes, shall we? The research work opens new ground for other break throughs, no?
That was before he started invading other countries i think. But he did transformed germany into a economic powerhouse once a again. The invasion of poland was because the poles were bullying germans living within its borders. And were not willing to discuss terms with hitler on how to solve that problem.

1938 or was it 39?

That is arbitrary.

Lots of work advanced the state of the art in tech and the scientific landscape.

The question is what deserves a prize?

Answer to that question is arbitrary.

There is no particular reason XYZ should win a prize more than PQR or JKL or EFG.

Each year, lots of papers are published, high quality papers tend to be influential and get cited a lot.

Stinkies generally outperform all/most countries in that measure.

care to list some examples?

from what I understand, Failip wanted at least 50% of the researchers in A*Star to be Sinkies over a decade ago- FTs were encouraged to take up citizenship while doing their PhD, research fellows were also offered to take up citizenship. :whistling::whistling::whistling:

Problem is stinky gov't is filled with useless economics political science and other social science grads who don't understand science or tech. Result is failure after failure.

Kee Chiu said sth like 70% of researchers in stinkypore is now stinky.

Considering the number of citizens in stinky barely number 60% of total population, that's pretty good.

there is talk that poles bullying germans was an excuse not a reason. it may not have been that bad. do you know more solidly one way or another?

My neighbour who hails from PRC is now also a Sinkie, what gives?

You clearly missed my point- massaging the figures by converting FTs into Sinkies is clearly manipulation of data to justify a point. Ho kwa bo ho jiak.

Talents are born, not made. That's why we import them.

couple of points:
Talents are born- that I agree, and I believe the suitable environment is still needed for that potential to shine through.

Import of FTs- this was a moot point put in argument even before I registered my moniker in this forum back in delphi days. A lot of researchers pick up the red passport only as a spring board to hop over to the States or other institutes as their end point, i.e. we are treated like suckers by advancing their selfish wants.

Doesn't matter.

The real stinkies are Malays.

Stinkiepore is a part of Malaysia.

Without FT, what is stinkiepore population? 2.5 million?

You give a table a ranking for fuck? I’m asking the specific papers being cited. The authors of the papers, Sinkies or FT-comverted-into-Sinkies?

There lies the point of argument- Our education system can’t produce talents that can impact the world with a lasting effect.

Another failure from you.

You sign up for education in a university or join as a staff. Gain free access to all major databases and journals. Read the papers.

Where can you get free open source papers? Those are usually low quality.

You assumed, again, but can't provide a proof.

Why don't you read the papers yourself?

It's none of my concern that you are illiterate and a dumbfuck.
