What should I get for him?

Sorry guys, I am crowdsourcing for ideas again. Please bear with me :o.

I know I had previously started a thread on Christmas gifts and the relevance of it to non-Christians like me. I expect some of you to “flame” me for my 180 degree U-turn – as I am thinking of getting him a Christmas pressie. Please cut me some slack, I beg, and my apologies.

Back to the crux now. I have been thinking about it and it is extremely hard to get him anything. He probably can afford what he wants as he is older and richer than me, hence my challenge.

Instead of concentrating on my work today, I have been thinking at the back of my head what he will like, cherish, value, relish and appreciate.

My shortlist are as follows and I have crossed all of them out!

1. Outfit and accessories: Ties, Wallets, Cufflinks, or any outfit accessories

It is really passé type of pressies!

I really don’t want him to wear what I buy. It is like “controlling” him, which I do not want to. He should be himself and free to decide to buy what he wants to wear.

2. Watch

He is currently wearing a Hublot and I don’t think I am going to splurge such sums of money on him.

3. Mobile Phone and Gadgets

He is already using an I6. So this idea goes out of the window! Can’t think of any gadgets useful for him.

I will be grateful if you men, especially the older and wiser ones, can give me some decent and worthy ideas. My budget is about $2k to $3k. I am willing to stretch to $5k if it is really worth the effort.

Show him your prowess in the kitchen. A decent meal should do it, don't forget the candle lights and a fine champagne is a must.

I would go with gadgets...

In general things guys love (physical items) usually in this order, but it's pretty common for them to have them in another order.
1) Women
2) Cars
3) Gadgets

You just gotta find out what he likes through chitchat and guiding the conversation subtly. You could also find out more about him and what he likes.

Great idea. I remember Claire saying in another thread that she's a great cook. I'd appreciate a nice home-cooked dinner from my woman. Especially for a man who has everything, or who can afford to buy anything he wants. (I personally don't like gifts, because most times they're not what I need or want, and an unneeded gift adds to environmental despoliation.)

Besides, while I'm against the commercialization of Christmas (or any religious festival), it would be nice if people made use of the holiday break to catch up with loved ones and dine together.

Zhihau, I think it's a brilliant idea! Many thanks. I am embarrassed that I didn't think of that earlier today.

Yellow, yep, I am a pretty good "chef". My only problem is his kitchen. I am here tonight and it looks "unused"! I guess he rarely cooks at home or that he maintains it well.

Whilst this awesome idea is worth exploring, I am a little concerned with "logistics" and "smell".

It is after all a romantic night and my fear is that after cooking, my whole dress will "smell" and spoil the night. I think it is manageable but I have to be a little careful in deciding what I am cooking. Asian food is definitely a challenge!

My immediate off-the-cuff idea would be a Japanese wagyu grade A5 steak from Medi-Ya which should go with a nice aromatic Bordeaux red. Post dinner, a bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée or Krug Rosé should do with dessert.

Err... I think I am worrying too much. I am wondering whether he has a good cast iron skillet pan to bring the temperature high plus constant enough for a perfect smoking point for the meat.

Thanks guys, really an idea worth considering
