It must be bleeding to death, sad state for local racing. This is what happens when you have the Govt trying to control a sport where they know next to nothing. It's like a chicken who has lost its head. Haha!

Move to Kranji Racecourse
The STC’s location on prime land in Bukit Timah made it imminent that it would have to move to a different location. In March 1993, it was announced that the club’s 135-hectare site would be used for residential development after 1995.22 Work began on a new 81.2-hectare racecourse in Kranji in 1996.

In August 1999, the STC moved to its new premises. This S$500-million Kranji Racecourse was opened on 4 March 2000 by then President of Singapore S R Nathan, with the S$3-million SIA International Cup as its opening race. Saimee Jumaat, riding Ouzo, was the only local jockey in the 14-horse field, but beat some of the best jockeys in the world to take first spot, making the opening ceremony sweeter. The event was witnessed by 28,000-strong crowd, and was the first horse race broadcast live in Singapore and worldwide.23

HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB

Jockey Club gets green light to allow public back on track
The Hong Kong government is letting fans attend the races from Sunday’s Sha Tin meeting as long as they secure an advanced table booking

Members of the public will be able to attend the races again from Sunday as the Hong Kong government continues to relax the tight Covid-19 restrictions that have been enforced in the past two months.

The Jockey Club confirmed groups of four will be allowed on course from this weekend’s Sha Tin meeting, provided they have an advanced table booking.

People will only be admitted if they abide by the public health measures put in place, including temperature screening, filling in a declaration form and wearing a surgical mask while adhering to the social distancing requirements.

These arrangements will be in place for four meetings – September 20 (Sha Tin), September 23 (Happy Valley), September 27 (Sha Tin) and October 1 (Sha Tin). They will not apply to the eight races scheduled at Happy Valley on Wednesday night, with only owners with starters (and three guests) allowed to attend.

Jockey Club chief hopes public can be back at the races in October

Bookings for those cards can be made from midday on Tuesday, September 15 and the limited places will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The move is a huge boost to racing fans, who – other than for a few fleeting moments – have been shut out since the pandemic first hit Hong Kong in late January.

It also comes earlier than expected as Jockey Club executives had a blueprint in place to have the public back on track “in the middle of October” in a best-case scenario.

But with the city’s recovery from the third wave of the coronavirus crisis picking up speed in recent weeks and restrictions being relaxed across the board, the government is allowing the Jockey Club to host more people on course.

“The guiding principle is that we cannot create a public health risk. We cannot create a risk for our employees or our customers,” Jockey Club chief executive Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges told the Postthis month.

“We have done a lot of work in the off-season to strengthen our protocols as much as we can. To mitigate any potential further risks, we have stepped up all the health measurements, the testing processes and procedures.

“We have changed our booking system so we can increase the number of sit-down venues.”

The Jockey Club also announced that off-course betting branches will now be open from 9.30am until 5pm before night meetings.

Last week, the club revealed that the popular Mark Six lottery, which has been on hold since February, will resume on Thursday, September 24 but customers would only be able to buy tickets either online or via telephone through an account.

Horse racing is a sport ?

Very good Question . You have to ask Queen Elizabeth II for a better answer .
She is amongst the top Race Horse owners in Europe .

Many Prominent , Well Known Families in HK are Race Horse owners.

In fact , in HK , it is a status symbol - it kind of show that one has "arrived" or have
made it in Life .

In SG its the Opposite , just look at the Racing Guide Booklet above , STC is more
a place to park the lesser Tiers Elites amongst the Establishment. A place for
them to retire and socialise .

The forgotten men and women , in our Society , the Ah Peks ( uncles ) , the Ah Sohs ( Aunties),
languish at the Hawker Centres and Coffeeshops to place their Bets amongst
themselves and play hide-and-seek with our Policeman - a waste of state resourses.

The Elites then in their Ivory Tower would Demonise Horse Racing as a Sport and harp
on the Evil or Harm it brings to the man in the street.

Hong Kongers and the world of Horse Racing would be scratching their heads in
puzzlement.

U want to increase revenue pls don't collect $6 per entry , give $6 to every entry punter to attract more ppl place bet. Ulu ulu race don't let the tce and qtt just few hundred or even less than hundred, like that how ppl want to bet , strike also no meat , dump in 5000 in tce and qtt every race , when ppl see pool is a lot definitely will bet more hope to strike bigger pool. Each punter given a free meal can eat inside turfclub. Simple.

If it is "sports"...how come no reports of these activities in the sports segment of the nightly news or televised ?

I'm also trying to find a pikture of LKY or CAQ taken inside RWS Genting or MBS Casino!

popular Urban Tale going around was that the Elder Lee ( of Lky ) was a habitual gambler . back in those days in the 1940s and 1950s Bukit Timah turf club was the mainstay.

guess that explain it.
