Well a writer questioned what will happen if "i am not ready to form the govt" party wins the popular mandate on count of that charlatan party asking all and sundry to vote for it irregardless and silly Ah Beng as he is known to be blindly follows suit? That silly party also has the nerve to suggest that the ramifications of its mistakes are not as bad as that of the PAP. Perhaps what Ah Beng really needs is to have HDB pegged to median income.. let's see what Beng does when the banks send a a big thick bayi to negotiate the difference owed the bank. Are our stoopid Ah Beng even paying attention???

What the fuck kind of political party is this????

Not Just Today, unfortunately all mainstream media (SPH and Mediacorp) in Singapore is PAP propaganda. This is not something new. The opposition parties are fighting off a two pronged battle, one from the PAP and one from government controlled media. If you can control the media, you control public opinion.

That's rubbish. Let's talk about Chen Show Mao. 40 years out of the country. A Taiwanese by birth. Took up citizenship to qualify for the Roades scholarship. Returns after 40 fucking years later because he is supposedly in love with Singapore. Speaks with a heavy Ah Tiong accent.

How the fuck is the Indian and Malay voter to trust this character? Any intelligent Ah Beng out there there has not yet been replaced by an FT care to venture a guess?

Chinese Xin Ming evening newspaper is even more wicked. They blown their headlines out of proportion to discredit the opposition parties. It is expected that the whole mercenaries are now being mobilised until polling day. I hope Singaporeans do not have a small brain that trigger their anmesia when come to voting for their lives.

All I'm saying is that media reporting is not impartial or independent, not sure where Chen comes into the discussion.

25 years working and living overseas, not 40.
He was studying and living in S'pore between the ages of 11 and 20+.

Chen Show Mao came to Singapore at the age 11. He left right after getting the scholarship at age 21/22. That works out to no more than 10 or 11 years tops. He spent no more than 10 years of his 50 years in Singapore. So even if you include his childhood years as Singaporean, when in fact it was spent in Taiwan... he returned to Singapore 30 years later. How is he going to get the minority vote with his Ah Tiong accent... this is the key question?

As it is...LTK is viewed by the minority citizen in Hougang as a bigot and one who offers preferential treatment to Teochew.

Not only Today, ST is trying sublime suggestion that the opposition is inferior to PAP. Better boycott all the official media on the election.

As discussed in other threads, nobody is going to question him why he was in Taiwan from birth to 11.
As for why he has been away for 25 years, perhaps it can be argued that he found good job opportunities overseas after graduation and hence worked and lived overseas. The fact that he stayed away may be due to his ability and not necessarily due to lack of affection for S'pore.

But of course the following questions are absolutely relevant.
1. Why is he doing this and why now? He has already tried to answer this.
2. How is he going to get votes, not just minority, but from all?
Don't know, will have to wait and see, will depend very much on 2 things: whether the voters believe his answers to the first question and whether they are unhappy with the pap. If an ah beng, ah neh or ah mat and his respective female counterpart say yes to both points, then they will still vote for this chap, ah tiong accent and all.

Chen Show Mao was never a Singaporean to begin with and most Singaporeans are unable to connect the dots as to how a Taiwanese became a resident and citizen of Singapore.

Like the Roades scholarship, for which he took up citizenship only after, he came to Singapore at a time in the mid 80s when the country was already grappling with low Chinese fertility rates. "Chinese grad females not marrying their male counterparts" or "Chinese having the lowest fertility level amongst all races"... while LKY set about to offer $10k to the CPF accounts to the lowly educated mothers (aka Malays) to undergo voluntary sterilization at the time of acute baby shortage, the govt was offering resident status including citizenship to those from Malaysia, Taiwan, China, South Korea, HK, etc, primarily the Confucian stock of which we now have Chen Show Mao.

This fact is not lost on the Malay minority and bound to be a vote loser for WP.

It's amazing to see that not only heavyweight ministers openly attack Chen Show Mao in the state-controlled medias, but also its doggy doing the same in the forum.

It just goes to show how Chen Show Mao has scared the hell out of PAP.

Anyway WP is surely the biggest threat to the PAP.

Duh! You are joking of course. LTK, SL and the rest of the WP leadership agree with the form and substance of the PAP govt. Heck, they have even admitted rather magnanimously they are not ready to form the govt and PAP are the best suited with WP playing an insurance policy in the long run. LTK has even given PAP rule the "thumbs up" with SL saying the ruling party has a fair judiciary system in place.

What threat does the WP and a foreign Taiwanese really impose on the PAP? A serious threat and Chen Show Mao along with LTK and SL would have been bankrolled years ago.

The first sentence I don't really agree. People like Khaw and Irene were not born and bred singaporeans either, at least not born.
Chen spent most of his schooling years in S'pore. It's not as if he became a citizen last year.

On the second point, I still think the key issue is whether the voter is unhappy with pap.
My personal take is that most are still NOT unhappy.

Khaw and Irene were also part of the policy at that time to let oversea Chinese take up residency in Singapore due to declining fertility rates amongst the Chinese. Chen like most overseas Chinese took maximum advantage of the opportunities afforded him, not unlike the FTs today and made the best of it and left Singapore afte. It was hoped then as it is hoped today with the FT intake, that at least 30% or more of the foreigners not only take up citizenship but make Singapore their home.

Ah Beng was not aware of the subtle invasion by these foreign born Chinese in Singapore back then as the numbers were far too small and most were Malaysian Chinese (difficult to tell apart).. and the ones on the receiving end of lost opportunities then were the minority citizen "Must be Chinese" or "Chinese speaking preferred". The larger implications went unnoticed as at the same time the govt was promoting " Chinese-ness" with SAP schools and Mandarin campaigns.

Had Ah Beng stopped to consider the greater implications, we would not be seeing the significant numbers of PMETs being displaced by FTs today.

On your second point, most are not happy with the PAP which i agree is true. But when you compare the alternatives out there, particular the ones that parrot the PAP, the choice becomes pretty obvious. I would rather vote the original product than a made in China imitation.
